"The world's first 630°C ultra-supercritical double-reheat thermal power unit entered commercial operation on Monday after successfully completing a 168-hour full-load trial operation in Yuncheng, east China's Shandong Province. The 1-GW unit has a designed thermal efficiency of 50.05% in power generation, marking the world's first coal-fired power project surpassing the 50% thermal efficiency threshold.
At full-load operation, two such units can save 208,000 tonnes of standard coal and reduce CO₂ emissions by 540,000 tonnes annually compared with traditional counterparts. The annual coal savings alone could generate enough power to meet the annual demand of about 250,000 households."
