Yes to all.

The chinese uav industry's already got prototypes of global hawk like HALEs and has offered predator like drones for export.
X-47B like ucavs are also under development by the likes of sac and probably cac but whether they're PLA funded projects or private projects are another matter.

this talk about private funded project sound strange to me.
have private project ever been in china military aerospace history?

Thanks. Could you name some of these drones?
And, is it possible that they will test/use some UAV/UCAV on the Varyag?

I find it hard to believe the entire array of UAVs and small aircraft we've seen coming out of the chinese aerospace industry are all PLA sanctioned projects. When I use the word "private" I meant that they are developed using the research institute's own initiative, they may have state funding for the institute but not necessarily by someone in the military themself.

I made a post, i think it was in this thread or the j-20 thread where I lined out some chinese examples of "private" aerospace projects.

in fact i was referring to big project like (J-19 and X-47b) not the small UAV and aircraft.

Global hawk type drones:
XiangLong

And xianglong (again)

Predator type drones

Pterodactyl (or is it pterosaur? it's one of the two)

X-47B type drone:

Well, we've got no picture of this yet but we can be fairly certain it is under development. We've seen scale, flying demonstrators of flying wing type craft at a recent competition and we've seen previous models of an X-47B like ucav called warrior eagle at 2008 zhuhai and before.

There's also a heron type drone, called BZK--005, a MALE surveillance type UAV that seems to have been in some form of service with the PLA for the past few years.

BZK-005.jpg

There's many other less notable drones like WJ-600, BZK-006 and the like. if you join CDF they have a pretty good thread with pics of all the UAVs and drones going back a few years.

---

and yes they will likely use some UAVs off their carriers, if not their LPDs. In a naval exercise last year there was a photo from a japanese naval ship following the PLAN, which took a photo of a PLAN ship that looked like it had a VTOL type UAV operating from it. So we can be certain chinese ships can and will operate with UAVs in some form, but how often/formal and how capable the UAVs in question will be is another question.

Interesting you mention J-19. I've speculated J-19 could be SAC (and maybe XAC) trying to come up with a stealth striker to "privately" to get PLAAF interest and thus, their funding, because the J-20 has alraedy taken the high end air superiority category.
So in previous history no, I don't think we've seen any large privately funded projects get snapped up by the PLAAF, but J-19 might change that.

I feel the X-47B UCAV equivalent could be privately funded to a degree. First fly a demonstrator, without the advanced avionics or weapons bay, and then PLA sees the feasibility and they fund for a fully fledged combat aircraft program. At least that's how quite a few situations have gone in the US and europe at least.

Yes it seems that SAC and XAC will collaborate to develop the multirole stealth fighter. This aircraft would also suit perfectly PLAN future needs.

may be they have already flown a small scale demonstrator months ago. Do you remember?
