Preparations for the IDEX2023 defense exhibition are ongoing and a model of the L-15 / JL-10 aimed for the UAE Air Force will be on show ... interesting, it is showing an in-flight refueling capability.

The only way forward is with domestic engine. Higher ups must be kicking themselves for not pursuing the domestic alternative after the Ukrainian War.

Priority and use of resources was probably deemed more worth to locate elsewhere.

Now though? I dunno, might have more resources today (both in personel, but also computer/tools etc. speeding up process to make and the likes).

There were like a quote from some video about how some software modelling tool or something was helping out in making jet engines (20% time save or something).

Close up of the UAE L-15 model. According to people in the know the refueling probe is a special feature requested by UAE air force.

AVIC officially confirms that the deal has been signed.
Yes, my source at IDEX told the same, as it seems 12 as an initial order for the Academy and later up to a total of 36.
Which engines would these UAE L-15s be using? Russian AI-222 or domestic WS-17?

In 2015 Russian manufacturer "Saljut" began to produce AI-222-25 without any Ukrainian involvement. Would be better for China to have their own but it's not a big deal if Russia permit exportation.

Of course Russia has allowed the engine to be exported to China, and now Russia is subject to severe economic sanctions and relies heavily on trade with China.
Now that Sino-Russian relations are so important, it can be joked that Putin will shoot any officials who hinder this deal.
