Wait. I think there's a term for this....

Soft power / psychological warfare....the very thing I've been warning about.

Before you reply back with the "iT WaS DuE To tHe wEsT'S HaRd pOwEr", go review the recent XHS tiktok refugee videos glazing China and shitting on usa. China has been a better place to live in than usa since about 10-15 years ago.

Ask yourself why Asians still get duped to moving to usa where life is worse.
Most Asians are not Chinese. USA is objectively much less of a shit hole than Philippines or Indonesia. Even South Korea is only somewhere between first and second tier cities in China, at the cost of having zero labor protections and an extremely toxic society.

The only really developed country living standards nations in Asia are China, Japan and Singapore.

Of course, it's America's occupation that has made the other countries so bad. Which in turn lets US keep stealing from them and corrupting their politicians. Either a military (pacific war) or a military-geopolitical strategy (Gorbachev model) is required to lift the American oppression in Asia and bring all other Asian countries into modernity.

Just came back from watching it, very action packed, seats were 80% full. It was all Chinese adults, not a single kid there. One long mid-credit teaser.
My theatre was about 75% full, some people were dressed up in hanfu and there was a gathering afterwards at the lobby were people were taking photos with the posters afterwards. Movie was well received, people were clapping when the dragon gang broke out.

I was a bit apprehensive about modern adaptation of Nezha changing the story too much, particularly I was worried about getting rid of him killing himself in front of his parents and gaining an urge to kill his dad after his reincarnation but upon reflecting I think these modern changes are well done and the two movies are better than the 1979 animated movie. Like from now on if this version of Nezha becomes the default that comes to mind when people think of the story similar to 1979 cartoon did in previous decades I'll be completely fine with it. Changes to Ao Bing are for the better and pretty much every character have a lot of depth so that there's much more moral grey than traditional telling which I feel suits the modern era better without taking away Nezha's heroism and rebelliousness. Even the Leopard guy has a lot of depth to him. It does feel like Jiaozi is having a deliberate dig at America with this movie but it's fairly subtle and not in your face.

I also like how both Black Myth Wukong and Nezha tries to tie Chinese mythology together in a cinematic universe sort of way, I feel that's very in the spirit of Wu Chengen when he wrote Journey to the West where he basically did the same thing with folk mythology of his day. From the look of things there's a chance Wukong will be in Nezha 3.

On weibo the original crew from Shanghai Animation Film Studio who made the 1979 cartoon of Nezha have given the film their blessing, so don't listen to anyone who says this movie is disrespectful to previous work. The production crew this time also clearly have a lot of respect for the 1979 version because they reused Nezha's face from 1979 version in the movie in a creatively way, complete with a joke for the adults who has seen 1979 from Taiyi saying "oh I like this version, that's OG". It even fits canonically with 1979 version since 1979 version Nezha is supposed to be what he would look like if he's soul was imbued with 灵珠.

They should have english dubbed the movie and at least did some marketing in the foreign markets. Then this film would have blown up big time. It's hard to do that with English subs only
I think there are English dubbed Nezha 2, it doesn't sound as good as original chinese and it will miss out on all the funny Chinese dialects. When you buy your tickets make sure it is in Chinese and not English dubs.
