What's new here? Wasn't SMIC able to mass produce at 14nm last year or even earlier already? I hate all these recycling old news or reporting non-news or predicting future news just to prey on people's eagerness to see greatest leap-forward in semiconductor made by China yesterday.

Unless, of course, it is talking about 14nm production line built with indigenous equipment. But then again, that was reported many times before and unless there is something new, there is really no need to repeat the same thing in monthly cycle to ease the anxiety.

What SMIC currently producing 14nm for a year or so, is not 100% with localised equipment

In 2022, it will be 100% localised (hopefully) ... so thats the main difference

I understand that. But that's not breaking news right. We've been posting news about that roadmap many times before in this thread. I myself even posted and translated a few more authoritative articles on the same subjects early this year here.

Let's not talk about other stuff not directly related to IC, that involves minorities.

Diversity is great!

But perhaps, not in this thread.

 :D
Intel's Indian chief in product development hired even more India engineers. It is common that Indians hire even more Indians in Silicon Valley. It was said that ethnic Chinese and other Asians are much better chip engineers. The result is Intel lagging TSMC and samsung.

Just curious, maybe I missed it. It have they actually announced full production of 28nm Chips with the SMEE machine? Last I heard they were still trialing production? I haven't seen any actual chips produced with domestics 28nm equipment yet.?

That's interesting about Semiconductor vs Semiconductor industry because it was changed to Semiconductor and Semiconductor Equipment Industry a day before I uploaded it to this forum. Must have something to do with with cache on your server.
On AMEC, I am very favorable. It is one of China's leading companies to move the country to self sufficiency.

I have read your paper some more. Again, great insights and I highly appreciate you posting here. I have a few additional questions that I hope you can give a few thoughts on:

1. It seems like AMEC has quite a few products in the etch sector. Both Lam and AMEC have products for both dielectric and conductor etch. In particular, both have presence in the deep reactive ion etching market, which is key for memory customers due to the high aspect ratio etching required for stacked cells. What is your opinion about Lam's future market share in etch vs. AMEC?

2. Do you have any opinions on the relative strengths/weaknesses of each supplier? I understand that there are a huge number of factors to consider (spatial uniformity, etch/deposition control precision, time between maintenance, etc) but is there a tool, for example, that is unique to a particular supplier that nobody else has? (To my knowledge the answer is no and its mostly small differences between suppliers but I could be wrong).

3. What are your thoughts on different markets for these tools i.e. logic vs. memory vs. analog/mixed signal/power? I understand that many markets use tons of second hand tools such as power, analog and sensor fabs. Is there the possibility of new tools being sold for these markets?

due to high demand and not enough second hand tools.

They won't be announcing it until the West is finished in semiconductors.

well .... whether it is a breaking news or not, it really depends on how you look at it. From what I read, it is like a confirmation .. so to me it is a breaking news. I don't really want to debate whether it is a breaking news or not .. sorry :)

I had no interest debating you on any news. It's not at all a breaking news to me or whoever paying attention to this sort of things. Now, you have had your breaking news. Fair enough. Let's move on. Sorry.
