What proof do you have of the assertion that there is zero development?
Has there been a single update since the Global Times report on the vaporware? No. Given how quickly IC news diffuses out of China, the absence of evidence is evidence of absence

Given? What is given? Do you have an actual measure of how quickly IC news diffuses out of China compared to other countries? No, you do not. Nor did SMEE assert that they'd have a commercial model ready for public sale, and have it posted, on day 1 of Q4 2021.

@asta bro old news but at least perfect timing for you, $300 billion IOT market by 2024 and currently 45% of world Chip demand, the 2022 mass production of 14nm domestic line will help China in its industrialization drive despite the threat of sanction. Nice, fully localised 14nm in 2022, but I don't count the chicken before they have hatched

Is there any other country able to fully localised for 14nm ? I don't see any, even the US or Japan couldn't do it

That is it, that is confirmation. 14nm logic chips fully made in China.

Today is October 15, 2021 which means full production is the next quarter.

Since it appears that one chip order, needs 3 months of production to fill, the timeline of full production should be imminent, 1st qrt or 2nd qrt next year, if this story is true.

I think it is true. Going from 28nm to 14nm, not that impossible when it is all known as it is.

You know what brother, I had this thought the other day, that the IC industry is all engineering, electrical and chemical and mechanical. But it is also an economics issue, because engineering needs to be funded.

What is the point here?

What is economics? Economics, the first read book about it, was by Adam Smith. In that book, the invisible hand was discussed. How that process of industry, and specialization, is moved along by an invisible hand, and how the economy will organize itself, it is via the forces of that invisible hand.

The IC industry, all that specialization in all facets is done by that invisible hand. The invisible hand of economic interaction, moves everything along in IC.

However, we need the technical competence for all the moving parts, the electrical, chemical, mechanical, engineering to fit too. If they fit, meaning that a certain standard of competence is reached, then that invisible hand will bring it all together.

Once we heard the news of 28nm fully domesticated, then once someone else breaks through in China will better processes for lower nodes, it will automatically drag everything along eventually. The invisible hand teaches us in real life that is how it works. And China has no shortage of STEM people. Heck, they landed on Mars on their first shot, in one of the most complicated space missions ever invented.

So, I do not think we need to track down every rumour. If they say they got this, and that fits into there, then the rest is coming along. It is inevitable.

That brings us to another point. What the invisible hand brings towards, but that can move things away at the the same time. 14nm now, when is 7nm next?

If it happens faster, that is real trouble for some in the world IC industry.

I would think that China would have a fully domesticated 7nm before President Trump gets re-elected.

That should be pretty funny!

@horse especially bro going from 14nm to 7nm is much easier as they share the same processes and some major critical equipment, the breakthrough from 28nm to 14nm is crucial from PLANAR to FinFET. That is a lot and a limited number of countries is able to do that.

The system, launched by Midea in cooperation with OpenAtom Foundation, China's first open source software foundation, is cross-platform, distributed and open, according to the company.

The system was launched to give users a plug-and-play unified platform without having to develop an app for each home appliance, according to Xiang Jiangxu, vice president and CTO of Midea IoT.

By the end of December last year, Midea appliances equipped with Huawei HarmonyOS had seven categories and 12 products.

Just a small thing: you may have a typo in the title of section 1 (Semiconductor vs Semiconductor industry).

What are your thoughts on AMEC as a future competitor for Lam, since it is also in the etch and deposition market, has recently won a 2018 VLSI small supplier award and has reportedly sold equipment even to leading edge customers like TSMC?
That's interesting about Semiconductor vs Semiconductor industry because it was changed to Semiconductor and Semiconductor Equipment Industry a day before I uploaded it to this forum. Must have something to do with with cache on your server.
On AMEC, I am very favorable. It is one of China's leading companies to move the country to self sufficiency.
