Samsung have more expertise in semiconductor and mainly into memory , CPU and foundry. Huawei main IDM is into Silicon photonics, IoT, and analog chips.
But Huawei is more capable in software than Samsung as it has its own OS and HMS. It also very much into EDA.
I think Huawei will be a Frankenstein, somewhat like Samsung and Google cross combined and more , also into AI assisted pig raising, coal mining.
Right now, its investing arm Hubble doing very good , some small semiconductor companies are IPO at the market.
That's one of main role of Huawei is acting like a big brother and bring up China semiconductor supply chain.
Be the first one to use YMTC flash. and probably will also include CMXT It will be a big sponsor for smee, cetc lithography. It will play a major role in both DUV and EUV domestic equipments. Semiconductor equipments is one area both Taiwan and Korea doesn't have. And this is the most critical area because US main tech war is centered on equipment denial.
Its not just for self sufficiency but would cause US to lose in this cold war if China has both DUV and EUV technology

It invested in at least few SiC technology companies the next generation material to replace IGBT, power electronics for EV.
Huawei could potential make cars later. It plans to make Lidar from it's photonics fab. That's car componet for EV autonomous driving.

It's acting Warren buffet, earning from investing into semiconductor related technology companies.
@Oldschool Yup Huawei is the vanguard of Chinese technological competency the reason why the US is so determined to destroy her.

Because Chinese companies have little choices. Either US qualcomm or Taiwan Mediatek. Samsung most keep the processors for their handsets.

That the fact the Samsung Exynos 2100 had its sole launch and announcement in China says Samsung's policies have changed. Samsung is now trying to sell Exynos chipsets directly to the Chinese phone makers. In the past, Meizu has used Exynos but Samsung wants more of the market and be more of a Qualcomm and Mediatek competitor. I know that Vivo Y70 has the Exynos 880; S30 and X6 has the 980. Exynos 1080 is looking for a Chinese customer, Xiaomi or Oppo are rumored.

@foofy thanks for the info, so its a confirmation of what @WTAN had posted had come true, SMIC 1st phase expansion is in Shanghai operation this year with 14nm ,12nm node and maybe N+1 (8nm this April) , phase 2 in Beijing with the possibility of a 7nm node production line in 2024 not bad at all.
SMIC Beijing Phase 1 first factory will be start production in middle of 2022. The capacity is 50000 wafers per month. Most like 28nm.

Thanks @foofy appreciated. :) so the SN2 will also be in Shanghai and is different from SMIC Beijing Phase1? The timeline is so similar I thought SN2 is in Beijing? ;)

from @WTAN
Okay.....recently SMIC recently completed the construction of it huge SN1 12inch FAB for 14nm Finfet Chips in Shanghai.
There are plans for another plant called SN2 which will be ready by 2024.
SMIC already produces 12nm and 14nm FINFET Chips and will be expanding the production of these Chips at this plant in 2021.
This was discussed earlier where the Shanghai Local Government was promoting the production of 12nm and 14nm Chips.
According to this CNTechpost article SMIC will strenghten production of 1st and 2nd Gen FINFET.
This means that SMIC will be producing its 14nm and N+1 Chips(April) at this new plant.
It appears the new SN1 production line is able to produce the N+1 Chips as well.
So looks like SMIC will mass produce its N+1 Chips this coming April as mentioned by Liang Mongsong.
SMIC will have no problems producing the 12nm and 14nm Chips for local and overseas customers.
SMIC is only restricted from producing Chips 10nm and below.
Will it sell to Huawei?
With the new Entity list laws, SMIC may be forced to supply Huawei with Chips.
Huawei has just released a new Mobile Phone with Kirin 710A 14nm Chips.
Most likely made by SMIC.

There will be 2 new plants, which use mostly domestic equipment and are different from SN1+SN2(中芯南方 SMIC Southern), which use foreign equipment.

One is in Beijing, which I mentioned in previous post. The other new plant is in Shanghai and will be completed this year and capacity of 20000 wafers per month.

Both new plants are joint venture between SMIC and government.

WOW!!! @foofy again thanks for the additional info, so SN1 FABS and the domestic equip plant this year in Shanghai plus the SN2 (Shanghai or in Beijing?) 2024 and the 2nd domestic FABS in Beijing in 2022? That is a huge increase in wafer capacity and SMIC is confident of its 14nm , N+1 and N+2 tech node to justify this kind of investment.

SMIC and Huawei probably wouldn’t have been sanctioned if Intel and US android phones didn’t fail so hard.

That’s what you get when you put so many Indians in management
Be thankful Moores Law is dead or severely slowing down... Were this not the case there would be real possibility China wouldnt catch up, but now it seems inevitable just matter of how soon

America was gonna to attack China sooner or later, once it sensed China getting too close this was always gonna happen...
