yeahhh, no rush is needed
Your sarcasm aside, there's actually an important point to make here. China doesn't rush things. China always works patiently and methodically and gets all the details hammered out before moving ahead with anything. If China were the rushing type, we'd see it building more Type 003 carriers at a frenetic pace - what we instead see is China building one ship of the type, testing and verifying it before transitioning to more advanced nuclear powered carriers.

SSMB is not the sole contender for EUV lithography. It's a late entrant; very promising but with question marks hanging over it. I expect the first generation of Chinese EUVL tools to use LPP with SSMB appearing later in the decade.

Other semi companies to think about
RA Chem (彤程新材)

so they are building a industrial zone in Shanghai that will produce 11000t of semiconductor and flat screen display photoresist and 20000t of associated part. They also have an ASML lithography machine to test out their product

They started mass producing KRF photoresist for SMIC in 2021 and supply 5% of SMIC supplies. They were looking to construct a ARF high end R&D platform by the end of this year. I don't know why they are so fast with KRF, but so slow with Arfi photoresist. Looks like they got into KRF pretty early, but will be one of the later ones into Arfi.

One things that's kind of good to see is just how many companies have gotten into this. I'm a little surprised Sinopec hasn't gotten involved here given how prominent they are in China's chemical industry. Given the # of Japanese suppliers, it's good for competition for there to be several Chinese ones also.

Jiangsu Yoke Technology (雅克科技) - have clients CXMT, YMTC, Samsung, Intel, TSMC & SMIC
Looks like they do cleaning solution after polishing & post etching cleaning solution.

Dinglong Chemical(鼎龙股份) - makes CMP polishing pad for YMTC, CXMT, SMIC & Huahong. Also doing cleaning liquid & polishing fluid

Huate Gas (华特气体) - Create various IC gases for YMTC, SMIC, CR Micro and others. I think they were qualified for ASML a while back

Jinhong Gas (金宏气体) - develops ultra pure ammonia & high purity Nitrous Oxide.

RA Chem's main customers include SMIC, Huahong, YMTC & CXMT "等几十家客户". Quite a lot of customers. Looks like G/I Line + KRF are well supplied in China.

China University of Science and Technology has produced a perovskite single crystal LED with a lifespan of 12,500 hours

Xiao Zhengguo's research group, professor of the School of Physics, University of Science and Technology of China, used the space confinement method to grow high-quality, large-area, ultra-thin perovskite single crystals, and for the first time prepared perovskite with a brightness of more than 86,000 candela/square meter and a lifespan of up to 12,500 hours. Ore monocrystalline light-emitting diodes (LEDs), an important step towards the application of perovskite LEDs to human lighting. Related results were recently published in Nature Photonics.
At present, the external quantum efficiency of perovskite LEDs based on polycrystalline thin films has exceeded 20%, which is comparable to commercial organic LEDs. In recent years, the lifetimes of the vast majority of high-efficiency perovskite LED devices reported range from hundreds to thousands of hours, still lagging behind organic LEDs.
Factors such as ion movement, unbalanced carrier injection, and Joule heat generated during operation all affect device stability. In addition, the severe Auger recombination in polycrystalline perovskite devices also limits the brightness of the devices.
In response to these problems, Xiao Zhengguo's research group used the space confinement method to grow perovskite single crystals in situ on the substrate, and then adjusted the growth conditions and introduced organic amines and polymers to effectively improve the quality of the crystals, thereby preparing high-quality calcium crystals. Titanite thin single crystal, the minimum thickness is only 1.5 microns, the surface roughness is less than 0.6 nanometers, and the internal fluorescence quantum yield reaches 90%. Using a thin single crystal as the light-emitting layer, the researchers prepared a perovskite single crystal LED device with an external quantum efficiency of 11.2%, a brightness of more than 86,000 candela/square meter, and a lifespan of up to 12,500 hours.
This means that the perovskite single crystal LED has initially reached the threshold of commercialization and has become one of the most stable perovskite LED devices.

Electronic special gas localization report

Electronic gas refers to a special gas used in integrated circuits, new displays, solar cells and other fields. It can be used in chemical vapor deposition, ion implantation, photolithography, diffusion, etching, doping and other links. It is an important material for semiconductor manufacturing. one.

According to techcet's data, the global electronic gas market size in 2020 is approximately US$5.85 billion, of which the market size of electronic special gas is US$4.19 billion, accounting for 71.6%. Future growth will be primarily attributable to growth in the specialty gases segment.

China is the world's largest consumer of electronic gas, but the degree of localization is still relatively low, mainly relying on imports. With the rapid development of the domestic semiconductor industry and the acceleration of domestic substitution, the analysis of the market status and development prospects of the domestic electronic special gas industry shows that the market size of my country's electronic special gas market will reach 23.1 billion yuan in 2022, and the market size of my country's electronic special gas market is expected to reach 2024 It will reach 24.9 billion yuan, with a compound growth rate of 7.3% in 2020-2024.

The domestic electronic special gas industry has a high degree of concentration, and major manufacturers include Zhongke Keyi, Zhongke Tianma, Zhongke Metal, Zhongke Jingyuan, Zhongke Ruipu, Zhongke Ruifeng, Zhongke Ruitai and Zhongke Ruiding, etc. These enterprises have continuously innovated in product research and development, production technology, quality control, etc., mastered independent intellectual property rights, and broken foreign technology monopoly.

China does rush things when there is need. For example atom bomb during 1960s.

So if china can crack the x-ray mask and x-ray photo resist problems in the future China can just upgrade those newly built EUV infrastructure to X-ray light source infrastructure?
Exactly. It is future proof. However, it is much easier to produce soft X-rays than EUV, so it won't be necessary. Like, we're talking household 1 kW power in, 300 W out, rather than power plant 100 kW in, 300 W out.

My personal take is, that under this very abnormal situation Chinese companies do not need just to cut corners they need to work overtime for breakthroughs, they need to take bigger risks, development need go from the lab to production faster, verification times need to be shorter, unproved products need to tested, proved and used faster, problems need to be solved on the go, no wait 10 damn years until the water level passed the nose to learn to swim. Bigger companies like SMIC need to invest and groom companies who products are closer to the semiconductor industry into their supply chain. The Chinese goverment needs to use their financial weight to dampen the risk. Because, again, this is a really abnormal situation that nobody want to be.

Huawei is pretty good example.

They got out the comfort zone into chip manufacturing.

They proved, tested and verified working overtime at a fast pace thousands of components from Chinese companies some who had never worked with Huawei before.

Is Huawei out the woods? No
Is guaranteed that they will succeed? No

But they are in much better position if the have waited for the Chinese gradualists in the industry, believe or no they still exists, to make things happen in 20 years or a damn miracle to happen

If the response of the Chinese gradualists, is "This is no how my industry works, we need keep doing things the old way, like if nothing is happening and wait a million years to learn to swim" then they should find another job because without moving fast they are going to drown.
