This is insane:

This is basically imprisoning people choosing to go into high tech industries!
This means that once they decided to leave they are not coming back. Taiwan may resort to include immediate family in "members of group" for punishment or a blanket ban on travels.
Sorry, no more overseas family holidays.

The problem with such a policy is that it has a profoundly negative effect beyond just people questioning their employment.

This might chase away professors, potential students to the US and PRC. This will exacerbate the brain drain that this law is ostensibly meant to stop.

We know PRC companies have already opened their wallets (look at the former TSMC team at SMIC), and I believe that technically ROC nationality is automatically PRC nationality under mainland law, so there is no “fast track”. The US also has a lot of money to throw around if they choose to.
Working in US high tech is complicated because of trust(living under surveillance) and bamboo celling.

Or you just pay the 300k usd fine that any Chinese firm can offer you as a sign on bonus and get on with your life. And you can always go work in south Korea or America afterward if you don't like the mainland gig. The wages in Taiwan is so low. No wonder people want to leave.

They are claiming Chinese technology "theft" and "poaching". But in a few years they will eat the humble pie in a big way.

Thanks to Dungeness of Pakistan defense forum rebuttal, It's successfully developed and the head is promoted to lead a new subsidiaries (partly owned by Huawei) centering on IOT, using the Harmony OS as its core. What is important is Harmony OS become an important National project and Mr Wang Chenglu had been task to see its mass usage and application in major IOT industries as China move on to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Dr. Wang Chenglu, the head of Hongmeng, was revealed to have left Huawei.

On May 23, it was reported that Dr. Wang Chenglu, the leader of Huawei's Hongmeng and the president of Huawei's Terminal BG Software Department, has left Huawei. At present, the official certification of his personal Weibo has also been cancelled, and the specific reason is unclear.

The news also said that Wang Chenglu's next stop is in the field of Hongmeng, and it is recognized by Huawei. According to blogger @文力元, Wang Chenglu has joined Shenzhen Kaihong Company.

According to the official introduction, Shenzhen Kaihong Digital Industry Development Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Shenzhen Capital Operation Group Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Shenzhen State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission), Hubble Technology Venture Capital Co., Ltd. (wholly owned by Huawei Holdings), and Beijing Chinasoft International Information Technology Co., Ltd. The company's joint venture is a high-tech company focusing on the Internet of Things operating system. It was registered on August 26, 2021, with a registered capital of 500 million yuan. The registered place is located in Futian District, Shenzhen. With the strategic goal of becoming the leader of the intelligent IoT operating system, Shenzhen Kaihong focuses on the technology research and development and continuous innovation of the intelligent IoT operating system (KaihongOS) based on OpenHarmony. Based on the pan-industry and pan-consumption fields, it focuses on the commercial distribution, industry distribution of intelligent IoT operating systems and supporting software and hardware multi-scenario intelligent services, empowering thousands of industries.

Seeing this, I believe that most people have understood that Wang Chenglu may be working again in another company that develops the open source Hongmeng operating system. However, some people are still wondering, isn't Open Source Hongmeng Huawei's? Wang Chenglu did not lead the development of Hongmeng, why did he leave Huawei and work for another company?

The detailed reasons for the resignation are not yet clear, but Kaiyuan Hongmeng no longer belongs to Huawei. Last year, Huawei donated Open Source Hongmeng to the Open Atomic Open Source Foundation, which is managed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which is equivalent to the fact that Open Source Hongmeng is already a national project.

Who is Wang Chenglu? What kind of contribution have you made?

Wang Chenglu, Ph.D. graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology.

He joined Huawei in 1998. As one of the veteran technical backbones, he has served as President of the Core Network Product Line, President of the Central Software Institute, and President of the Consumer BG Software Department. He is currently the President of Huawei's Consumer AI and Intelligence Full Scenario Business Department.

The biggest impression from the outside world is that it dominates the development of the Hongmeng operating system and the Ark compiler.

In 2010, Wang Chenglu served as President of Huawei's Core Network Product Line, responsible for mobile softswitch solutions. One year after taking office, he verified the feasibility of the MSC Pool solution and the large-scale commercial delivery capability, which laid the foundation for the popularization of 4G in 2013.

Afterwards, he went to Huawei Central Software Institute as president, responsible for the pre-research of forward-looking software technology.

In 2015, Wang Chenglu served as the President of Huawei's Consumer BG Software Department, and was fully responsible for the strategic planning and development of Huawei's terminal software.

For example, the release of EMUI, Huawei Hongmeng OS, and the Ark compiler.

On the EMUI project, Wang Chenglu's team has successively optimized the user's pain points.

For example, EMUI 5.0 solves the problem of Android system lag; EMUI 8.2 is a graphics acceleration technology for game scenarios; EMUI 9.0's first Link Turbo network aggregation technology, as well as the Ark compiler, EMUI 10 based on terminal distributed technology, is Hongmeng. The system lays the foundation.

In 2019, Huawei Hongmeng OS debuted. At that time, it was introduced that this is a distributed operating system for all application scenarios, which can connect the smart terminals in life through hardware.

In 2020 and 2021, Huawei will open the Hongmeng system code twice, and any developer can freely download, use and modify the source code, and at the same time form the OpenHarmony open source project.

For a time, under such an opportunity, as a representative of the domestic operating system, Huawei Hongmeng system has attracted much attention from China and the world.

The man behind it, Wang Chenglu, is also known as the leader of Huawei's Hongmeng system.
