Is the U.S. about to make a multi-billion mistake in much the same way that the Chinese government has by funding a national fab capacity buildup that has largely been a flop?
Isn't that complete bullshit judging from the fact that Chinese semiconductor production keeps steadily rising YoY?

let's see. your job tells you to make a decision to emigrate immediately because your old job no longer exists. the destination has a lifestyle and demographic that you are 100% not used to. your kids will need to be pulled out of school immediately, lose all their friends, etc. and that's on your employer's word, the same employer that just eliminated your old job.

you'd trust it?
lots chinese immigrant to US or western countries. most forum members here live in western countries. if the company offer additional raise/pay/moving fees etc, most those employee gonna move to US. that just reality, a $150k+ salary in idaho is pretty good. silicon valley is full of chinese immigrant working at apple/google etc etc. If china want to keep those talent, they needs to pay more or something attractive so the employees want to stay. if the employee have the skillset, they will be needed in china or US or elsewhere.
its same for indian, india have quite a bit brain drain issues. most ppl move to west because the living standard, if their home country have the same opportunity and living standard, its unlikely they will move.

Less true for younger Chinese who don’t want to end up in Idaho.

Idaho isn't Silicon Valley.

The only way the West can prevent China from dominating is if they don't buy any. Does that really matter? They talk as if they can stop China from making chips. China has the money. China can make every technology needed to produce chips. It's only a matter of time. Dominating them isn't something necessary for China. Independence from them is necessary for China. Some members in here will try to brainwash you into thinking the West needs to use it in order to be successful. Again they try to make people think their acceptance is most important. You can make the best chip in the history of the world, but if the West doesn't use it, you failed and you should stop? You have to be an idiot to follow that logic when all that matters is you have the best chip in the world. If it's that simple, why are they worried about China's domestic chip industry if it needs the West's acceptance to succeed? Just don't give your acceptance. They need China to believe that in order for it to work. It never even entered their thoughts that China could make its own chips or they would've foresaw this outcome. They thought if they deny chips to China, China will beg and submit to every one of their demands. It's that stupidity is to why they're in panic now. Anything short of large scale military aggression on their part ain't going to stop it.
