Why is laptop dwindling market?

Exactly, Laptop market is booming even more due to C19 (WFH), perhaps what @Hyper meant was desktop, that I would have agreed

More and more people and companies are using a laptop and laptop is getting better and better

I just got a new laptop from my company with i7 11th gen and 32GB RAM and 1TB storage, in my company it is 3 yr cycle. The performance wise is just unbelievably fast compare to my old laptop 3 yrs ago. It is also very light 1.1 kgs

Yes it would be. I Hate to be devils advocate but @ansy1968 do we know for sure the chip inside the monitor is a 45nm Huawei chip? Or is it speculation from previous articles?
@MortyandRick Sorry bro, I don't have any solid proof so you may say it's a speculation on my part, I'm trying to pierce together Hints and clue here and there trying to form a conclusion. What we know is that 45nm is within China core competency and Huawei had finished building its 45nm FAB in Dec 7 ,2020 as the article stated below, second this Chip is ideal for consumer appliances since its a plug in and don't have internal battery and third it's the height of the tech war with heavy pressure being used to subjugate Huawei, so the urgency is there and it's the first step for tech self sufficiency and then will proceed to 28nm in 2022. The time frame is the same as predicted by our esteem members @WTAN @Oldschool @tokenanalyst @krautmeister and others. ;)

in China’s central region. It includes FAB Production Plant, CUB Power Station, PMD Software Factory, and some other supporting facilities. It will also sever as the company’s internal optical capability center, smart terminal R&D center, and some other cutting-edge technologies.

Once the project is completed, it will start the production work as Huawei’s first chip

factory in China. This will enable the Chinese giant to have a complete semiconductor industrial chain — from chip design to manufacturing, to testing and packaging, which is a rare feat.

But it seems that this won’t be the only such facility from Huawei. As per another report, the company is planning to have another chipset factory in Shanghai and will be managed by a Shanghai-based R&D company on behalf of Huawei.

Although the chipset factory is being set up, it won’t be able to compete with the current leaders. Huawei will start making 45nm chips next year and will progress to 28nm chipsets by 2022. This is nowhere near 5nm chipsets being launched nowadays that powers the premium

Thanks man. Still better than nothing!

28nm would probably be enough for Huawei to produce their baseband chips for 5G cell phone towers.
The consumer market can wait.

@MortyandRick bro it's exciting work, this thread is a treasure trove of info, we are lucky to have such esteem members contributing and one of them is you bro, I'm willing to prove myself wrong and this forum is a perfect place to exchange ideas, having a conversation and to learn. Brother we are on a first step of a long journey and hopefully we have the temerity and patience to reach the summit.

Micron Technology disbands its DRAM design team in Shanghai and is said to prevent loss of talent to other Chinese companies

Micron Technology is disbanding its DRAM design team within its Shanghai R&D Center, JW Insights has learned on January 25.
Sources also said that Micron would help some 40 core members of the to be disbanded team immigrate to the United States with their families.

The Micron Shanghai R&D Center is said to have over 100 employees and the sales, testing, and other functions will remain unchanged. There are neither changes with Micron's factory in Xi’an for DRAM manufacturing and testing.

Micron's DRAM design team had previously lost quite a few employees to Chinese IC design companies and storage manufacturers in the last couple of years.

An industry observer commented that Micron's disbanding of its DRAM design team is likely to prevent technological leakage. Although the number of Chinese DRAM companies is relatively small, several new ones may emerge in the next few years. DRAM manufacturers are looking for talent. Micron's move may want to keep product design and R&D outside the Chinese mainland.

Micron Technology has the world’s largest DRAM market share of 41.5%, according to market research firm Counterpoint. Samsung is the second of 29.3%, SK Hynix the third of 23.4%.

Micron has a long history of attaching importance to intellectual property protection. It took UMC to court for leaking trade secrets. Still, they ended up reaching a global agreement and withdrawing their lawsuits against each other last November, with UMC paying Micron a one-time settlement of an undisclosed amount. Both parties said in their statements that they look forward to future business cooperation. At the end of the lawsuit, Micron emphasized that intellectual property protection is an essential cornerstone for its competitiveness.
