So, only the newest machine has no license to sell to China?, I am assuming EUV

How about DUV TWINSCAN NXT:2050i, thats not the latest
I think it was the machine that are capable of producing sub 10nm chips that why it's always a sliding scale.

Let say China breaks through the 28nm then asml might ask to sell China 28nm capable machines because the export control are of no use then.

@BlackWindMnt and @antiterror13 Sir for me IF ASML do restrict its latest NXT 2050i DUVL, by late 2022 the window of opportunity will close, as further improve iteration of SMEE SSA800 DUVL will enter service. The basic foundation of SMEE DUVL is good, with help from end user like SMIC, HUAHONG and ICRD, its progress will be rapid as SMEE try to satisfy demand with ASML having supply chain issue. Sir being a businessman there comes a time where you hold all the aces as customers gravitate to you, Its an oxymoron IF you only select a few, A good businessman will try to satisfy all of them by dividing your limited resources evenly. Even though you hold a monopoly, the mantra of " your customer success is your success" should be your guide, that is how you established goodwill and trust.

I think there is a more insidious factor, these semiconductor companies have a lot of influence within Chinese electronic industry, they cannot lobby the Chinese government as they do in the United States or Japan, but they have bought influence in other ways through overseas Chinese returning to work in China, partnering with research institutions and even by less subtle means. China used to have a local EDA software industry in the early 2000s which made the United States lift the embargo on EDA software in 2003 I think, immediately NorthAmericans companies established partnerships with Chinese universities and companies and the rest is history.
The point is that these companies that dominate global semiconductor industry today are not going to lose that market just because, so they will continue to buy influence within the Chinese electronics industry to continue spreading the message that their equipment is safe and at the same time lobbying American politicians. The problem is that there are a lot of hawkish cold war warriors politicians with poor knowledge on the industry but with a lot of political influence hell bent on the idea of destroying Chinese companies that compete with U.S companies and more if they out-compete U.S ones and just a matter of time until Trump wins in 2024.

Chinese companies will hold Ge Qun hostage when they find out the US Govt has sanctioned them and their overpriced American EDA no longer works.
LOL!
