Shenzhen Kaihong plan to support their version of OpenHarmony on x86. Apps develop on the Kaihong app market will be available ton the Huawei market. Not clear if its bi-directional. There has been images of Kaihong OS having vscode and office. No idea how they achieve that or if it is fake. HarmonyNext shows off running a windows VM rather than even bother suggesting linux support. I find everything about harmony/openharmony a bit confusing at the moment.

There exists an official Linux compatibility layer (shim) for HarmonyOS Kernel. So it should be able to run Linux apps with near native performance (much better than a VM like in Windows case). However, I am not sure weather Huawei have enabled it on their Laptops or not.
As for VSCode on KaihongOS, they are running the Linux version of VSCode on top of that compatibility layer. The Office they are running is not Microsoft Office. Its WPS Office, which is now available for HarmonyOS as well. So Kaihong is most likely using the native version of WPS Office. They could also use the Linux version of it. WPS Office has been around for many years and is functionally and visually similar to MS Office.

Here is a video of KaihongOS. Looks like it runs Harmony Apps, Linux apps, and Android apps. I believe this particular machine is 8000 rmb which is way overpriced. If they can get this OS on 1000-4000 rmb notebooks/minibox produce by any vendor, it could get good traction as it is very similar but better than ChromeOS which offers chrome web browser, linux container, and android vm.

Yeah the computer looks very netbook-ish from two decades ago. Surprised this computer maker is still using this design.

The most in-depth review of the OS and the hardware right now (there's english caption btw).
It's extremely locked down on the level of iOS, basically an iPad with a keyboard. Pretty sad:confused: I think I will just wait to see if that changes
