Probably as an add-on to CPEC. If China wants to move its trade channels by land then it should also subsidise a bit on naval protection to Pakistan
Should do with 052DL with Z-20F next time. Pakistani iron brother has been pivotal and strategically important to China's security and core interests. This is also kinda worrisome, because I feel that the US will run out of patience with Pakistan eventually, and may start looking to undermine Pakistan's national sovereignty and stability.

Based on ex-Chief interview, seems PN is not going for heavy babies like 052DL for the time being.

PN have done pretty decent shopping in last few years which are going to be quite handful to protect SLoC & EEZ of Pakistan ...... Find below ....

4 - 054A/Ps FFGs (Under different level of construction).
4 - Milgem VLS Corvettes (Under different level of construction).
2/2- Damen OPVs (2 Commissioned + 2 more planned).
8 - Quing class AIP-SSKs (Under different level of construction).
4 - Sea Eagle MPAs (based on ATR 72) Commissioned.
4 - Jinnah Class FFGs (heavier version based on Milgem) Planned as per ex-chief PN, status unconfirmed.
10 - Sea Sultan MPAs (Based on Embraer 1000) currently 2 are under conversion.
4 - Heavier tonnage FFGs (unknown as per ex-chief) status unconfirmed.

Above will complement the following in next few years:

4 - F22Ps (Due for MLU)
4 - Azmat Class FACs (Maybe more to be inducted)
3 - Augusta 90Bs AIP-SSKs (Recently gone through MLU)
10 - PC3s MPAs
01 - Oliver Hazard Perry Class FFG

PS: PN have different Types of cruise missiles (Ranges from 350km - 750km) in their Arsenal plus there are rumors that 2 squadrons of JF17Bs will be assigned for PN duties by PAF in coming future.

Is there any talk about Pakistan getting more Chinese ships? Their sub order is huge but I am wondering if Pakistan has any naval gaps that China could fill by exporting some of its ships

Not sure really but you really don't know how future acquisitions will occur ..... with recent shopping list it seems PN will remain under 5K tonnage in near future.
