No, actually it is not comparing apples to oranges. Both are examples of weapons that are extremely difficult to develop and many people with absolutely no vision of the future have laughed at these technologies and said they can't be done or are too far away. Hypersonics like lasers has also been researched for decades and is only now bearing fruit. If it were for people like you hypersonics would never have been researched in the first place. Same thing with fusion power. Short-sighted people say it's too hard, too expensive, takes too long, there are other power sources, blah blah blah. But steady progress has been made. The timeline is long but the rewards are immense. The fact that you have no patience for long timelines makes absolutely no difference to the thousands of very smart people around the world, probably most or all of them smarter than you, that are working to make compact militarized lasers a reality. So you can rant and rage about lasers all you want. Meanwhile the world just laughs and moves on.It is like comparing apple and orange. It is NOT the same thing. They have been working on laser for 30 years now with nothing to show other than incinerating small boat 150 m big deal!
I will take this as hyperbolic exaggerated melodrama, because on the face of it this statement is absolutely ridiculous. And it will take another 300 years for laser weapon to work!
