why was CD closed?
I heard it was a leak. Someone was arguing on outside internet with foreigners about PLA order of battle and to prove he was right he was giving details quotes about how many pieces of so and so equipment a brigade has or something like that and he was then bragging about the argument on CD.

It happened numerous times on CD and each time it leads to crackdown. But in 2021 with tightening of OPSEC this leak came just at the right time for a final blow.

But anyway there were a lot of things like:
j20-1.jpg
j20-2.jpg

This person claimed to have filmed J-20 demonstrating supermaneuverability, in particular a Pugachev's Cobra. He said he lives right near the CAC airfield implying he filmed it himself.

With such things MSS isn't going to invite you for tea if you just film it on your phone and keep it for your own enjoyment. But if you start spreading it on CD or social media and it ends up outside the firewall (which it inevitably does, since you have busy bodies like me watching CD for such juicy stuff) then both you and CD are in trouble.

I never got the chance to ask this, but I figure this may be the best time to do so: do these types of leaks, like a picture of the two seater J-20 or a picture of the lessons the plaaf learned from the Thai-Chinese Force on Force air exercise, happen to the US military?

Probably not to the same degree, the US is vast with much lower population density than China, they are able to setup large exclusion zones around critical RnD facilities to prevent military enthusiasts with a big zoom lenses to look too deep.

The kind of leaks we see from the US mainly stems from disgruntled military members leaking videos of warcrimes lol.

The PLA's threshold of opsec overall is much higher, meaning that the variety of information and pictures that would be considered a "leak" is much greater for the PLA than for the US military, even relatively benign and late stage things.

Things like what you described as equivalents in the US military wouldn't be considered a leak, but rather publicly disclosed and conveyed to the military PR side or to defense media/journos.

I personally oppose to Chinese section.

We are international forum, so we must use an international language, English. If we open a Chinese section, we may attract more Chinese to join the forum, but the flood of Chinese members may eventually push out international members. At the end, we will end up as a Chinese forum.
