Is there any new IFV's coming after the BMP-3 style ZBD-08/WZ502G? Western countries are currently looking new more heavier vehicles to give better protection. That 100mm gun is a bit risky since it's ammo will most likely explode if armor is penetrated by enemy fire... why not use proven 25-30mm autocannon?

Is this really a same WZ-502G platform (this one is armed with 120mm mortar) but without those outdated firing ports?

This is the same vehicle that was seen being transported to heavy armor units near North Korea.

From the linked website, it says the updated armour can protect the vehicle from 30mm cannon fire from the front. I always thought zbd-97 could always do that.

As to why the 100mm cannon, faster reload for ATGM and better fire support for the infantry.

one reason why the russian decided to arm BMP-4 with low recoiled 100mm gun.is due to soviet army was saddle with million round of 100mm ammo for T-54/55,trying to decommision prove to be expensive. alternative was to recycle it into ammo for low recolied 100mm gun.
but according to steven zaloga.the russian may realized it was a bad idea.any penetration against thin armour plating will result massive explosion killing the crews and infantries inside the tank.
(syria lost 22 bmp-1 in two weeks of fighting in alleppo.all suffer from catastrophic explosion)

And remember, BMP-1 has its fuel tanks as its rear doors...and in urban combat such design is even more a deathtrap.

Also, what is a BMP-4? Couldn't googled up anything about it. Or you mixed it up with the BMP-3 series?

This being a brand new IFV, I would expect its armour to be proof against anything up to and including 30mm APDS.

In open combat, anything that can punch through the armour of IFV will likely destroy it outright irrespective of what cal ammo the IFV was carrying. The only widely deployed AT weapon that might get through the armour but not completely destroy the IFV would be your late model RPGs, but those should only be a threat in urban combat.

In an urban combat scenario, the troops should be deployed to support the IFV and other armoured vehicles. The crew of the tank would be at greater risk, but the troops shouldn't be put in that much more risk most of the time. To balance this, the 100mm would allow the IFV to threaten things your 30mm armed IFV can only scratch the paintwork of. In urban combat, a 100mm HE shell would also be significantly more effective and useful than 30mm rounds.

What more, if you have 100mm armed IFVs, you don't really need to send MBTs into urban combat situations where they would be very vulnerable. Slap on some ERA and these IFVs should be able to withstand even late model RPG attacks. If the enemy has modern ATGMs or anything that can defeat ERA and punch through the armour of these IFV, MBTs will die just as easily to those weapons, but MBTs are a great deal more valuable.

from combat experience from US army and personal eyewithness.bradley FV fired few AP round against side of iraqi BMP.whole tank just erupt.not just fuel tank in the rear door, but also carousel ammo.and like t-72 tank, any penetration will result massive explosion in the ammo.

Remember also that the door fuel tanks were aux tanks that were filled with sand/earth prior to entering hostile teritory.

according to last month issue of Tanks and armour magazine (Chinese lang.) claim the WZ-502G side turrent were line with ceramic design to defeat 30mm APC rds.
likely the ZBD-08 and other IFV introduced in the late 90's may have included ceramic /kevlar lining
