Chinese Engine Development

This likely means the turbine either operates at higher temperatures or has better energy recuperation.
40% efficiency is quite high for a marine gas turbine. This is important news.
Still I would wish they tried to increase the power output a bit to make it more competitive with latest Western gas turbines.
The fact that they can hit such high efficiency means that they can probably achieve higher output pretty easily too now. This is more a matter of design choices based on fit for applications than a matter of capability.

Posted on the wrong thread. This is the air force engine thread.

The thread title doesn't say "air force", and moreover, turbines on ships are often based on aviation variants. And finally, Z-10 and Z-19 are in the Air Force forum when in fact they are in service with the army. The same can be said about the Z-20 thread. In other words, categorization here at SDF is not a precise science, as many platforms share technologies and components and are used across many service branches. If you can think of a better classification system, be sure to let the webmaster know.

P.S. I had already cross-posted this in the Type 055 thread before I shared it here. Happy now?

Well, Z-10 and Z-19 are in the service with the army but they are still aircraft, so OK, i would say that this is the aircraft engine thread so this is off-topic posting. Turbines on ships arent necessarily based on aviation variants.

And no, im not happy.

Let's agree to disagree. :p

Why not move this thread to another subforum? I personally prefer having one thread for both marine and aero power plant development, don't think there is enough information or news density to warrant two separate threads.

WS-20 already installed in Y-20 according to this guy
I'm skeptical.... I'm pretty sure he's referring to this picture, which was posted on the Transport/Tanker/Airlift thread

y-20a-vs-maybe-y-20b-ws-20-jpg.64791

If this was indeed the case, it's cowling's were opened as @Deino pointed out, and therefore making the engines appear larger as if WS-20s were installed
