Chinese Engine Development

in which case, imo, it's not very well researched, because J-11B right now is exclusively going with WS-10A and J-10 will be switching over to WS-10A once they've sorted out all the minor problems they have with it (and I hear, there are a lot, I mean a lot!)

They probably meant entering service on a single engine platform i.e J-10.

Would you like to share with us some of those problems? are they related to efficiency, reliability, maintenance, altitude?

The full article does mention the WS-12 (Only a portion of the article is available on-line). I agree that the omission of the WS-13 is odd - since previous Jane's articles have mentioned the engine.

You have seen the full article then? Does it mention what sort of progress is being made on the WS-12 and what its current stage of testing is at?

Ahh thanks for the link! Well it looks like the 'chart' we found last December seems to have a lot of merit now, or, at least it does according to Jane's. Although the replacing the WS-12 to the WP-14C seems a bit odd (replacing a new engine with another new engine)

If the management have actually learned anything from previous aircraft projects, then I think they would design J-xx with using Al-31 or WS-10a in mind. Otherwise, we might have to really wait until 2022.

I have my doubts about the timeline talked about about here. I think it's very problematic. Let's just put it that way.

Well Jane's says these numbers are from the manufacturer and you know as well as anybody that those always tend to be more 'optomistic' than reality. The fact is though, we now have a rough outline atleast for many new engines which beats guessing and speculation.

yeah, but we have official AVIC1 news article on a lot of this and the Jane's figure are in conflict with that. It has some good things, but also I'm not a believer.
