OMG this is crazy so many crane building Xiongan new town(1000crane) it is just amazing

A young couple from the Yi ethnic minority community are currently helping to build China's "city of the future," Xiongan New Area. The pair's jobs, as tower-crane operators, not only offer job satisfaction but also a unique view on the start of a new chapter in China's history

What is the purpose of this new city?

It's important that the Trump tariffs are removed on both sides and even more if possible.

I'd like to see China back at 7% growth a year.
China does not even care, even though the WTO has ruled these tariffs by the US are illegal. China is raising prices on all Chinese exports by allowing the rmb to go up even faster.

The will move some of government offices from Beijing to this new town Xiongnan to relieve Beijing while at the same time the will built a environment conscious master plant city incorporating all the experience gained in building Suzhou town, Chonqing and Tianjin eco city

Xiongan is a new Special Economic Zone. Will help establish a Silicon valley there since it's close to Beijing and the new govt offices.

I think they will make it suburby, very "green"

But there are already high-tech zones in all provinces and even within Beijing itself.

Beijing wants another Shenzhen-ish presence in the north. This way young people won't all move to the south.

They want to say "here, we give you the same regulations as shenzhen but also less since you're next to the government"

It's like in the US where medical companies can gather near the NIH/FDA in DC/Maryland.

Strategically speaking, you also don't want to put everything in the south near the SCS/Taiwan since war can break out.

Also the government doesn't want too much economic power to leech to the south. You have Yangtze River Delta metro (Shanghai Hangzhou Nanjing Suzhou) and Pearl River Delta metro (Hong Kong Guangzhou Shenzhen), and a lot of talent is headed there. Even though Beijing and Tianjin are powerful, there's still a concern that northern China might hollow out. Including Northeast China. So with another major city next to BJ and TJ, a powerful cluster in the North, you help prevent too much concentration of power in the south.

Yeah and I think the North (Jilin, Heilongjiang, Liaoning) can be saved if they do SEZ and maybe figure out the North Korea situation.

I hope one day China can run a high speed rail from Changchun to Pyongyang to Seoul. It would really jump start the region.

My fantasies since I grew up there :).

Well at this point only Kim Jong Un dying will lead to North Korea opening up. So probably not anytime soon...

Sounds like wasteful to me. There is really no need for china to build another big high tech infrastructure center. There is only one sillicon valley in the US. In the tech industry, as with every other industry, talents will flow to where its better to their careers/pockets, not where its closer. And besides, with the tech advancements, working at distance will become more prevailling in the future.

I think that the chinese government should understand that they cant develop everything in every territory. Even in the US, there are a lot of scarcely populated regions that live primarily of agriculture and turism. Taking into account the caracteristics of NE china (being more plain and more fertile than other regions of china), whats the problem of those regions specializing in agriculture? And i dont think that NK will ever be much helpful to NE china in economic terms.
