I still remember the first time I went to China. Finally I was inside China, and I was so happy.

But, it was poor and backwards, but moving forwards. People were slightly still bitter about the past, but there was a sense of a new era.

I was so glad to see things improving, and I thought it would take 100 years before China could come anywhere close to catching up to the developed nations.

Look at it now.

:)

Never ever forget how China had to struggle because of the West and Japan put us down.

The relative success of the last two decades was built upon the sweat of countless generations of Chinese going back 170 years. That's why places like Hong Kong and Taiwan, South China sea remind us what China was forced to loose.

And China has had to fight for every bit of her new found wealth. I remember, It wasn't all that long ago. Whenever my parents went to visit my aunties (my mum's two sisters) in China Guangzhou. We have to take everthing we can carry up with us to give to them because China and they were so poor. And bearing in mind we were not exactly rich ourselves.

What China was able to accomplish in the last 40 years is nothing short of amazing. 800 million people lifted out of poverty and much more. The pace of advancement is shocking. We all remember what China was like 20-25 years ago.

So desperate.

They are leaving out the part that in China there are not enough workers because there are more jobs than workers available. Companies are desperate to attract more workers with higher pays and benefits because the economy is expanding. However the article is correct to say that the economy growth is been drag down by lack of workers. But In the present global situation, its something China can brag about.
In the US, there are more workers than jobs available because of higher fertility and emigration and the economy is contracting. The US economy is not expanding fast enough to accommodate new workers and US real wages hardly budged since Deng Xiaoping began his economic reform.

Maybe time to send boomers back to work.

It also presumes that China can't do what other countries, ranging from East Germany to South Korea, and the UAE to Israel did and does: get immigrant workers.

I don't really understand why China wants to invest in that sh*thole of a country.

Anyway, India has more to lose than China, let the decouple.
The fact that India now want and allow Chinese investments after all their BS and not chest thumping proved that India is in some deep trouble and realise that the West and Japan have very limited or no better options to offer.

Many Chinese have become gig workers instead of working in repetitive and boring assembly jobs that don't offer better pay. Another factor is that many have return their native provinces since the pay gap isn't as wide as it used to be. If factories want to fill jobs, they need to offer better salaries and incentives.

@Gatekeeper bro I can relate with you, on my part, my father whole salary is being sent to support my grandparents and my relatives in China, my mother had to work to support me and my 3 sisters. That is why we're so poor, he always reminded me that his body is here but his soul stay with the motherland and he will play the Chinese communist song aloud. The funny thing is that during those days the Philippine is under Martial law and is fighting the communist insurgency, my mother will always argue with my father to tune it down or risk being arrested....LOL and the laughable part is that the police and the neighbors didn't understand the words and its meaning my father always answer that it is a Chinese opera hahaha, The Internationale song a Chinese Opera  a good one dad hehehe a good one.

Also the Chinese are already going into high tech manufacturing process doing with less workers, yet with more efficiency, thus lowering cost. When China ran out of PPE at the start of the pandemic, the Chinese designed and built new auto machines from scratch in a couple of weeks. Many countries also did the same from US to India, but one year on how are they doing now? The Australian seafood processing
factory that I work now use only China made PPE not Australian made because Chinese products are much more practical and cost effective to keep the factory economically viable.
