The ongoing petty and snide commentary is however very annoying and it was quite gratifying to see a pontificating Damian Grammaticus from the BBC get shoved aside, by clearly annoyed relatives, as he got in the way of the family of the rescued girl from one of the above pictures.

Would you happen to have a link? I think I would enjoy watching that as a break from all the horror of what is happening over there.

if what i remember is correct, the epicentre is at wenchuan, not beichuan.

and as far as i know the rescue team hasn't reached wenchuan county yet.

I was rather surprised that they even tried to airdrop paratroopers into the region considering it was almost night time, there was a storm, and the mountainous terrain. airdropping would be crazy in my opinion...

facing the most critical 48hours, any crazy ideas that works and are efficient are worthwhile

they have no time to lose

The unfortunate fact is that a lot of people are still buried under the rubble. If they are not dug-out and given medical help on time their chance for survival is very low.

Relatives kept Wujian Cuomao, 68, and Cairen Baji alive for five days by sending them food and water through gaps in the rubble with the help of bamboo poles, state broadcaster CCTV said. (AP Photo)

China rebuilds from Sichuan earthquake

Post by "oneman28":

Rebirth Of Beichuan - Less Than 2 1/2 Years After The Earthquake In Sichuan, China

The devastating earthquake on May 12, 2008 destroyed many areas in Sichuan province, China. Five million people lost their homes and about 20 million peoples' lives were impacted.

After the earthquake, the Chinese central government assigned areas to other provinces for reconstruction. China planned to rebuild all impacted areas with a total of 1 trillion RMB investment. Shandong province is responsible for the rebuilding of Beichuan city. New Beichuan is now almost ready and people are moving into their new homes.

The pictures were taken before September 2010, when Shandong province began to "hand over" the new city to Beichuan residents.
