The best time for viewing the Victoria Water Lily has arrived at Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden. This plant is famous for its giant size and ability to hold a person, prompting many tourists to take pictures of themselves sitting on it.




The Victoria is a kind of water lily that originated in South America. Its flat floating leaf can grow to more than 2 meters in diameter and carry up to 70 kilograms. Its ability to do this comes from the hollow structure of its leaf vein and sharp prickles on the leaf undersides and stems. The curling leaf edge brings the leaf up like a basin.




The flower of the Victoria Water Lily can also change its color, which is also impressive. On the first day when it blossoms, it appears to be pure white. The next day it changes to pink, and on the third day it turns to purplish red.

Practicing tai chi — a Chinese martial arts form — has become a popular way to spend the ongoing summer holiday for teenagers in the Yongnian district of Handan, Hebei province.



The district, located about 450 kilometers southwest of Beijing, is well-known for its long history of tai chi development.



More than 70 teenagers practiced the art at the Yude tai chi martial arts courtyard on Tuesday, led by master Li Lizhou. "Learning tai chi has become a popular way for many students to spend their summer holiday," Li said.

While people around the nation are experiencing the scorching heat, tourists can enjoy an extremely cool weather in an ice cave in Ningwu county, Shanxi province.

Located at an altitude of 2,300 meters, the temperature in the cave remains steady at about -6 C all year round.

Experts said the cave probably formed during an ice age 3 million years ago.

It is really a unique experience for tourists as booming flowers welcome them before they enter the underground cave that features an icy wonderland.

The cave has been developed into three levels with various marvelous shapes in the ice, such as icicles, icefalls and ice stalagmites, presenting visitors a fairytale world.
