Some pretty major plans (or more like shiny plans beyond the C939) announced by COMAC recently.

From ARJ21 to C919, now looking forward to C929 and C939 (of which COMAC seems to have indicated to be a A350/777X-counterpart). Apparently COMAC is now expecting the C929 to be delivered to customers in 2029(?) (and C939 in 2039?)

According to the original article, this presentation was given in November last year (probably at the Shanghai Airshow where we saw the C919 Stretch and Plateau variants make a debut)

The article links to another one which quotes SAACC director Gu Xin as expecting EASA certification of the C919 next year, appears rather optimistic given the comments we've heard (see the post-Singapore discussion in the C919 thread). CAAC/COMAC seem more confident than I am that EASA aren't just dragging their feet despite being publicly non-committal to COMAC's timeframe

Latter article namechecks Cathay Pacific as having expressed interest in the C919 (I'm assuming if they do order, that they'll be for HK express to replace the A320ceos on lease)

Russia is facing difficulties in the aviation sector due to Western sanctions.
“Yes, it is not very good that we are facing these difficulties [due to sanctions], but the good thing is that it encourages us to work more intensively in this sector. In key sectors you need to have your own skills; in key areas of development it is necessary to be able to independently produce high-tech things, which the country cannot do without, including aviation equipment,” the Russian leader noted.

PS:
sanctions are always behind the door, ready to be imposed on every nation, Putin's words serve only to confirm that it is appropriate to develop one's technologies in a strategic field such as the civil/commercial aviation sector.

So for the C929 and the C939, what is COMAC going to do to make them more competitive with Airbus and Boeing planes that are going to be flying in the same period? The C919 is already lagging behind in performance compared to similar narrow body passenger jets of today.

And in the 2030s and 2040s, it's expected that Airbus and Boeing are going to be making some major design changes to the traditional passenger jet design in a bid to improve fuel efficiency and performance, from next generation engine designs like open prop engines, to major design changes to the wings and air frame like truss-braced wings, blended body designs, foldable wings etc etc- some of this may or may not work out, but it could be likely be the case that in the 2040s, simply building a larger traditional wide body passenger jet isn't going to cut it.

Is there any plans for more radical new technology being developed to be integrated onto the C939, or is it just going to be a larger but still traditional widebody with minor iterative improvements over the C929?
