After reading this in wikipedia about Spike missile:
The Spike NLOS uses a fiber optic link similar to other Spike versions, but only out to 8 km, after which it employs a radio data link for command guidance.
I came to conclusion that basic HJ-10 missile only have 10km range compared to Spike NLOS's 25km because it doesn't have data link guidance, so it was limited by the length of its fiber optic wire just like Spike ER. HJ-20/50 seems to be variant of HJ-10 with data link guidance to allow it to go further.

I think there's a difference though with HJ-20/50, which seems to have gotten rid of the wire guidance entirely. If the wikipedia info on Spike NLOS is accurate.

HJ-20/50 may be a development from HJ-10 but there's got to be quite a difference in propulsion system and perhaps size as well right? Are HJ-20 & HJ-50 the same missile body but different ranges?

HJ-10 as it stands doesn't rely on datalink because for the PLA, given the opfor they face and the level of EW they would face, they require a rather jam proof guidance system at those distances, which fibre optic provides.

In time it's likely that HJ-10 will have datalink guidance that is sufficiently capable enough against very high end EW to extend its range further to what the airframe is capable of.

But imo it's less about "HJ-10 doesn't have a datalink" and more "PLA has very high standards for a HJ-10 datalink".
