The gunner fainted since the ventilation system malfunctioned during one of the shots. Sounds like an issue they need to resolve.
Even though the Tank Biathlon doesn't simulate combat very realistically, it still puts the tanks thorough lots of wear and tear and could help tank designers spot issues.
The greatest issue with these 96s and most likely even the older model 99s, is the crappy fume extraction. Well it's no less crappy than what most nations use but the propellant goes everywhere in the cabin. Modern western guns (rheinmetall and licensed) don't seem to deposit anywhere near as much powder as the 2a46 based guns do.
Every video where the gunner fires (whether it's Russian, Chinese or whoever), at least one latch is kept open and it's immediately obvious why. The cabin fills up with fumes from the propellant.
Not sure if it's the fume extractor (which obviously works from viewing outside but seems to be insufficient) or the type and configuration of propellant.
The choice for the crew is terrible. Either choke on fumes with the hatch closed or keep it open and risk the integrity of the turret.

Russian home brewed SOSNA-U is most common thermal in modernized T-72's and you can see it below. I don't know how much tech they got from French before Crimea sanctions kicked in but they don't French made components anymore.
Here is supposedly Type-96A night vision(?)... does it have thermal?
