Another surprise ... so far all YY-20A tanker had 20851 to 20947 assigned to the 13th Transport Division, 38th Air Regiment based at Wuhan-Paozhuwan, but now allegedly number 20544 was seen!

So are they being renumbered or indeed a new batch of numbers?

It appears to be a recycled tail number.

Exactly ... most likely called Y-20U - even if Y-20AU would also make seince since based on the Y-20A - and as per @huitong it "entered the service with the PLAAF 13th Division, along with Il-78s, wearing a low-visibility color scheme. It was rumored that two (20241, 20242?) are currently in service."

YY-20 tanker 20242.

@Deino, is that a recycled tail number? Huitong has 20242 listed as a regular Y-20.

IMO it is an old image - would be good to know! - and the PLAAF initially numbered then with 20s-numbers but later the regular transport fleet within that regiment and so the tankers were E-numbers and the no. 20242 was reallocated to a transport.
