Another so far not yet seen YY-20A tanker is confirmed:
Serial number 20849 is actually the 9th YY-20A assigned to the 13th Transport Division, 38th Air Regiment at Wuhan-Paozhuwan (?), CTC ... and YY-20A number 20849 was the one accompanying the J-10CY "Ba Yi" back home from Saudi Arabia.

So only no. 20846 is still missing ... with no. 20940 being the highest number known so far.

A pleasant surprise: PLAAF YY-20A serial number 20945 was spotted for the first time, reportedly at the Qingdao Jiaodong Airport.

No. 20945 is now - after no. 20940 - the highest number confirmed within the 13th Transport Division, 38th AR.

What makes this a YY-20A as to just a YY-20?

Have you been able to figure out if they are sequential?
Yes, they are but not without breaks: within the 38th AR they are structured along this pattern:

20x4x with xx = 01 to 28 (so far highest no. known so far) are regular Y-20A transports

and

20x4x with xx = 81 to 95 (so far highest no. known so far) are regular YY-20A tanker.

What makes this a YY-20A as to just a YY-20?

Well, as far as I know there is no YY-20 since after serial production started and the Y-20A replaced the Y-20 I expected all tankers are named the same, aka as YY-20A.

on Twitter and indeed another surprise: with this YY-20A serial number 20947 we have yet another highest one. Seems as if at least 17 tanker are in service now. (Image by SEN BAI from JETPHOTOS)

Looks like they pretty much doubled the tanker fleet within the span of three years…
