China's strategic vulnerabilities

Japanese and South Koreans proclaimed themselves a stealth power not because they had stealth fighters but because their ally, the US, had them. They did that to belittle China and find an excuse to claim they were superior to the Chinese. Then the J-20 came out and now South Korea and Japan are scrambling to develop a stealth fighter of their own for almost now a decade. See how their pettiness will take something as simple as being an ally with someone who has stealth fighters to mean by defacto they have stealth fighters blows up in their face? It's just as worthless as being "liked".

It is the US senator Tom Cotton that started the Wuhan lab conspiracy theory in the Feb and the Western media has perpetuated the theory. After a few weeks, the Wuhan lab conspiracy was gaining traction and GT responded in March by throwing out a US-origin theory.

I think you need to get the timeline right first. Europe is acting the way it is due to the fact that Europe is never neutral in the first place. Nothing more and nothing less.

No, in February Senator Tom Cotton "suggested" that it may have started in the Wuhan lab, but also said there was no evidence for this.

The Wuhan lab theory had been circulating since January when the outbreak started,
At the time, even China didn't know if it actually started in the Wuhan lab and had to investigate for themselves.

At the time, Senator Tom Cotton was repeating what was "reasonable" speculation.

Except for the US regime no one is saying with certainty it comes from China. Currently scientists have found it most early in Italy in a groundwater supply, followed by confirmed case in France and then China's Wuhan, symptoms have been spotted earlier than even that in USA but USA refuses to allow an investigation.

Chinese officials can be diplomatic but they should not self censor, the truth must be said. If what the scientists are saying seems to point towards a certain finding, then its within their rights to talk about it and offer their own opinions.

They're 100% right to talk about the findings of foreign scientists who without doubt face immense political pressure to change science to suit propagandabut have forged on anyways.

I agree that there is no need to self-censor.

But at that time, there was absolutely no scientific evidence to support the accusation that it started in the USA.

So the accusations by China came off as stupid.

I have a friend who's married to a Filipina and I was invited to a party at her parents' house. The father was a diplomat for the Philippine government during the Marcos regime. In their house they had a library of books on the Philippines. I came across an odd book about why the Philippines stood out among all countries of the world. One of the chapters was how Filipino women were among the most beautiful of the world. Is that important? Lusting for is bigger than being liked. How does that translate into wealth for the Philippines since it's one of the lesser developed countries in the region?

Why shouldn't China care about the diaspora? When you want our help it's "Chinese are Chinese no matter where, be loyal to the motherland, wolf warrior, etc." but when it comes time to help us it's "China does not care." Believe it or not we help China too. I have spent a lot of effort presenting China's viewpoint in the West to Westerners, and people like me are uniquely positioned to do it.

Yes, what I advocate is in my interest. I fully admit that. But it is also in China's interest to have good relations with the world, and including the US. There is nothing selfish there.

And last of all I am not a troll, nor tidalwave. Although he sounds like a very smart guy.

tidalwave,to which government you paid taxes?

Suggested in a senate committee with a room full of reporters. Suggested in a way to keep repeating this for numerous occasions. This isn't suggested but a coordinated smear campaign. Your refusal to acknowledge this simple fact called into your objectivity.

China at the very beginning has already refuted this theory and claimed that it has investigated and found nothing of this sort. After Chinese strong denial, Senator Tom Cotton continued to push this theory and push this theory at the senate committee. Western media keep perpetuated this theory for weeks.

After weeks of this conspiracy spreading like fire and China was attacked by various western media regarding the origin of the virus. Then Global Time published a US origin theory that was also popular in the conspiracy circle.

Senator Tom Cotton was not repeating a reasonable speculation. He was pushing a smear attack and a total disregard of truth and facts. Don't manipulating the timeline to support your position which can be easily refuted.

The problem is that your entire argument is that

1) A large population by itself is not sufficient to be a great power

I argue this is true yes, but it is necessary. Proportionately a small population will only mean you can be a subordinate power.

2) India will never be able to industrialize

I would argue that you underestimate India. India is a great country with very smart people.

You say they will never be able to have manufacturing out of China and into India, but

.

India's steel output by 2018 was 2nd the world, ahead of Japan and the United States.

Between 2010-2017, India's Internet users increased from 8% of the population to 34% of the population.

Gradually the supply chain is moving, and alternative supply chains are being created. This is the choice of companies like Apple, and other foreign companies. Assembly can be moved anywhere with enough will and prodding from government policy. But what China cannot do is move advanced photolithography manufacturing to China, because China lacks the know-how to do it, no matter how much willpower or what the government investment is. Thus this is a vulnerability.

India is rising.

So it is a burden and a blessing, China's economy would be just as good with a population of 500 million? 100 million? 10 million?

India is rising yes, but it still hasn't demonstrated the ability to escape the middle-income trap.

In comparison, Chinese R&D spending is exceptionally high (2.2%) compared to every other low-income or middle-income country, such as India.

China's R&D spending intensity of 2.2% places it as the only developing country amongst wealthy hi-tech countries.

So what will happen when you combine:
1. a Chinese cost base
2. with a high level of Chinese R&D spending
3. with China as the world's largest market for most categories of goods and services

You end up with world-class Chinese technologies and companies, that is what will happen.

---

Plus your characterisation of India as a land of smart people is incorrect.
Where do you get your information from?

38% of Indian children are stunted due to malnourishment, which is proven to permanently degrade mental capacity.
India also places near the bottom on global literacy rankings.

And what is going to happen when robots continue to get cheaper and better?
You can already see robots replacing people everywhere in China.

Is it true that both the Chinese and the US have radars capable of detecting stealth planes? Is it just the fantasy of some enthusiasts?

You know tbh I sometimes find that CGTN is a little too dry with their reporting, tho I am not suggesting that CGTN itself change, it doesn’t hurt to have maybe a separate network based in the US that does the news the US way, sensationalise things, beautiful girls:cool: and some extra production quality, but rather than sensationalising bs, sensationalising a more neutral stance maybe, tho very difficult to do but I don’t think it’s impossible, I think it can of use to point out just how much straw the US news networks destroy every time they report on something.

As the saying goes when in Rome do as the Romans do. And frankly whilst they are at it a separate South American network doing news the South American way wouldn’t be bad either ;), even if I can’t understand Spanish I would still watch it!

Instead China became a hypernationalist authoritarian power that became even more hardline. So the US realized it made a mistake, it built up its own competitor and created its own monster by its own hand. That is why the US hates China so much now, because it loved it before. The bad news for China is that the US still has the clout to seriously damage and stop China's rise.

Don't be silly.

The US never "loved" China as you put it. Where on earth did you even get that idea?

It was marriage of convenience where both sides saw advantage.

---

You still think the USA can stop China's rise, whereas I think that time has already passed.
Yet you advocate a range of contradictory actions such as engaging in a values and propaganda competition with the USA.

So what is it?

Should China compete in a propaganda and values competition with the USA?
Or should China just surrender its ambitions to become prosperous and hi-tech, just so China will be "loved" by the USA.

You're being incoherent and contradictory.

Any successful businessman, politician or celebrity can tell you that once you are successful, you will bring out the haters.
You just have to learn to ignore them.
