China didn’t get to where it is today by letting Aerospace employees sit on their butts.
But "not letting sit on butts" or hardworking certainly does not equate to 997, does it? Of course in the propaganda (宣传) video they always say "continuous overtime work for months or years" which is certainly 997, but that is just exaggeration (煽情) which if you worked inside you should know. I know how the work life look like because I have a relative in XAC on Y-20.

SOEs are not allowed to overwork their employees too much as they're supposed to be a labor benchmark. But then again for really important projects it doesn't always get followed. For example I read about some J15 stuff and the guy in charge said he worked 207, or 20 hours for 7 days to get J15 launched. But otherwise SOEs have to prevent overwork to set an example.

Confirmation of plans for expansion of the modular space station after completion of phase 1 consisting of Tianhe and its two experiment modules Wentian and Mengtian plus the co-orbiting Xuntian space telescope. Phase 2 will consists of another trio of modules to be added to the station, starting with Tianhe 2 core module then followed by two more experiment modules in a replication of phase 1. The result will be a double in the size of the station, to reach a total of 200 tons when Xuntian is included.

It makes sense now that they're using the 2nd core module for this. Some time ago, there was a photo showing 2 Tianhe core modules and people said the other was a backup in case of failure.

Those people (in the photo) in the space industry do not work 997. It is only some private business who demand 997 against the labor law. SOE employees are required to work overtime when needed, but are compensated not only by cash, but also by shifted off-days. Non-contracted workers in SOE may also suffer from not being properly compensated overtime which breaches the law but never 997.
When I worked at a university research institute in Guangzhou 4 years ago, I remember working overtime not because I was asked to, but because I wanted to skip the rush-hour metro madness (afternoon between 4:30-7:00 PM was usually worse than in the morning). It was also during monsoon season between April and July, so imagine standing in line to enter the metro station while being drenched in rain and sweat. Once you are on the train, you had to smell other people's armpits because everyone was packed like sardines on the train. Therefore, I usually would not get off work until after 7:00pm.

what are you trying to say? have you compared with NY metro? the London tube...all in peak hours? the Tokyo metro transport? or even trains in Melbourne, Sydney in peak hours? or anywhere in the world in peak hours?
or are you trying to tell us you worked in a research institute in Guangzhou four years ago?
Is this the relevant website to vent your displeasure?

I think you missed his point completely. I think he was trying to say people in China (like him) may have worked 'overtime' for personal convenience reasons (like ease of commuting), not because the company asked them to. He was commenting on 997.
Many people in my old Firm (in New York), worked after 8PM so they can get free dinner and a car service ride home.

Wow, pretty good deal for the company. Though one wonders how much work was actually done after 5...
