Was interested in space sickness reactions according to the Garn scale. Was it mentioned at anytime? This is the yardstick for space sickness. Just asking.

"... The most extreme reaction yet recorded was that felt by Senator Jake Garn in 1985. After his flight NASA astronauts began using the informal "Garn scale" to measure reactions to space sickness. In most cases, symptoms last from 2–4 days. In an interview with Carol Butler, when asked about the origins of "Garn" Robert E. Stevenson was quoted as saying:

Jake Garn was sick, was pretty sick. I don't know whether we should tell stories like that. But anyway, Jake Garn, he has made a mark in the Astronaut Corps because he represents the maximum level of space sickness that anyone can ever attain, and so the mark of being totally sick and totally incompetent is one Garn. Most guys will get maybe to a tenth Garn, if that high. And within the Astronaut Corps, he forever will be remembered by that....."

JHFC just ban this guy already.

Looks like you are unaware of the objectives of the Shenzhou-9 mission. The relevant parts are featured in bold.

".....The first aspect is the health monitoring that mainly includes astronaut's nutrition and metabolism, moods, and biorhythm changes in orbit, she said.

The second is research on the physiological effects mechanism of weightlessness and the countermeasures, which include the impact study on the functions of astronaut's cardiovascular, vestibule and brain in the orbiting flight. They will also study bone loss in space.

The third is research on environmental medicine and the astronaut's operational capability in space, Wu said.

No, you need to be banned. Everybody here knows what you were insinuating even if you're too cowardly to man up about it. Be banned and begone.

I guess you had nothing useful to add about space medical research aboard the Shenzhou-9. Any spacefaring nation has to face the problems that micro-gravity poses on the human body. China is no different. If you plan any type of long duration space flight you must overcome the effects of weightlessness on the body.

Bone loss is also a problem for long duration space flight. Shenzhou-9 will study that too.

Don't be so cruel. US fanboys are already suffering badly watching this Chinese mission while theirs is reduced to hitching rides on Russian rockets. :)

While NikeX's comment made me go 'what? o_O', yours isn't much better. I assure you any American watching the mission isn't suffering while watching it, in fact I can assure you a majority of Americans don't even care :(.

No need to gloat about it though, there is no end point to the 'space race', and while bad management has left the US without a manned spaceflight component for at least the next 4 years, it isn't without precedent and it's not planned to be permanent.

Yes, I haven't seen much reported in the US about this and I'm not surprised. Yes they shouldn't care but many do. Like the day of the launch ABC news that night didn't mention it but mentioned the return of the mysterious US unmanned space plane which they speculated was to get China worried and make China go nuts going bankrupted on beating the US in space. In this case silence says more than is heard. The Chinese space program has been very pragmatic and steady so I don't think they're worried since the US has always been ahead of China and is nothing new. It really says those on top are the ones that are more worried and based on national and patriotic pride since what China threat from space can actually be done not in space and more easily and vise versa. It says something more when there are those that try to belittle China's achievements or spin it out to be negative.

They already discussed this and the American expert they have on their panel said you'll experience space sickness in the first 24 hours in space then you adjust.

Another of the panelists suggested that the Taikonauts would already have started to adjust themselves to the weighlessness in SZ-9 in the 2 days before the docking with TG-1.

This list of requirements is being reported as necessary for female Chinese astronauts / taikonauts if you will. Some of these are bizarre to say the least. Comments anyone?

Why am I not surprised you find it bizarre? In fact all the requirements have practical reasons.

1. Married (and with children). ____Because of the risk of what radiation can do to the reproductive organs.
2. Gave natural birth.____________A ceasaerian would mean a scar in the abdomen. Reason is same as those of point 4.
3. Bad mouth odor.______________Don't really need explanation here.
4. Scars.______________________Risk of tearing in low pressure environment or spacesuit.
5. Foot diseases._______________Same as 3.

Actually I dont recall seeing it in the main news section of our newspaper.
In some ways, its like watching a remake of an old movie, and keeping an eye out for new additions.

I did notice a white speck passing the rocket while watching a video of the launch a few days back but it's only now after watching the video again that I noticed the "object" changed direction away from the rocket. I wonder what the Chinese experts at the launch will make of this.
