I feel that while the Long March 5B’s uncontrolled reentry is less than ideal, western media ha accentuated the negative with panic inducing headlines. Even the actual articles state that the risk of actual collision is small, but does anyone actually read past the headlines these days?
Nope, which is the reason for having misleading headlines in the first place. Prose over substance, theatrics over common sense, politics over reporting.

I agree China should make it a controlled descent.. save it in space for a few years then let it descent right onto New York, saves money on missiles in future.

Has potential. Can you aim for Los Angeles instead? We need some serious urban renewal there. Also, I think a deal can be made if we allow Elon to test launching starships in DT Beijing or Shanghai.

As long as it's got enough control to hit a major American or Australian city. Then it meets all of CNN's criteria for controlled descent

If the Long March 5B were capable of controlled reentry, the lame stream media would just find something else to complain about. They might says the technologies for a controlled reentry are applicable for guiding missiles thus China is a threat to the world. So, uncontrolled reentry is dangerous and controlled reentry is also dangerous.

Their constant complains are just feeble attempts at diminishing China's accomplishments. The Onions portrayed this pretty well:
