this is a pretty big hospital ship, every impressive, even more amazing are the medical facilitys it has on board, 8 operating theatres!!! as Chinas navy grows overseas visits like these become all the more important and sends a very positive message to Chinas commitment to international peace and security

just a question, is this a Chinese purpose built ship or is converted? by the looks of it, it looks purpose built with the various facilitys, nice to see the good old Z8 helo on it!!

It is purpose-built as Type 920, commissioned in the East Se Fleet 23.10.08.

It was built by Guangzhou, which also built space event support ships Yuan Wang 5 and 6, which would explain the similarities.

There is also some sort of family relationship with the Guangzhou-built troop transport 88 that serves as ex-VARYAG’s faithful companion.

They are all designed by CSSC 708th Institute using what one source described as a common support ship hull, YW 5 and 6 were built by JN, 886 and 88 were built by GSI.

Oops! I stand corrected. I found the picture of Yuan Wang 6's name plate, it clearly says Jiangnan, launched 16.03.07, commissioned 08.04.08.

I thought the yard looked like Guangzhou....

Nanyi (“Southern Hospital”) 12 and Nanyi 13 appeared at the same time for underway replenishment operations. The supply ship was 887 Weishanhu, and the one after it was Nanyi 12. The photographer stood on the deck of Nanyi 13.
