Sorry to say this, but some of their English is really shit, particularly in the Navy boards which I mainly peruse.

Nationalism/patriotism is a consequence of indoctrination, that exploits human innate disposition towards group bonding and we-group demarcation. Yes, I am indoctrinated too. We all are. But at least I can step out of the enchantment. The idea that Taiwan's reunification with the mainland is key to a Chinese person's wealth and respect is not innate or natural. It is indoctrinated. That's how masses are controlled. That's how Japanese soldiers died for an emperor they never saw nor heard. Wake up.

What made you conclude that the content is garbage? Is that scene with the little children chanting: "We are small militia men, fighting U.S. imperialism. Uncle we must grow up quick and go to liberate Taiwan.", fabricated? Why do so many of you sound like those little children?
This is just BS

Holier than thou. "At least I can step out" gee. And none of us can then.

Guys can we see thus superior complex at work here? And oh yet, of course we are all behaving like a child!

Let me quote you a song from my youth by the style council. You're definately "speak like a child".

I have seen much worse English on western forums. I guess the education system in the west must be failing hard.
I worked as lecturer in my local college educating 16 to 19 year olds. I can tell you some of the standards of their English and maths are the worse I've ever seen.

I am a European living in Europe as an expat. I understand that it is not easy for people from other continents and culture's to integrate in European societies. Most of the time it is not of their own fault. As a natural defense mechanism, they fall back to the only group they perceive accepts them: their ethnic people and homeland.

However, by virtue of not living and working in their homeland and feeling rejected in the foreign land, they develop an idealized and romantic view of their homeland. This can be dangerous. This is a mechanism that contributed to some of these people to be duped into joining terrorist cells. Other went to fight for ISIS in the Middle East, even though they were born and raised in Europe.

Stop and think why Taiwan matters in your life. What is your connection to that island? How will it improve your life if China reunifies with Taiwan? What will happen with your life if China doesn't reunify with Taiwan? Aren't there other, more meaningful pursuits in your life?
There are so much prejudice on display here. It even worth replying individually. The bigotry on display for all to see here is astonishing.

Can you explain my case then? I'm Spanish (not ethnically Chinese), born and raised in the West, living and studying in China.

I think the problem here is that – as some users have already pointed out – your own indoctrination and absolute ignorance about China makes you unable to understand our position.

We have lived in the West for most of our lives, we have lived in China, we speak English, we speak Chinese. Do you really think you know more than us when it comes to comparing the West and China? Do you really think you can have an objective, informed, and non biased point when you haven't lived in China and you can't even speak Chinese? Short answer: you can't; you have far less knowledge and understanding about the topic.

Oh, and one last thing: sorry to break it to you, but some people end up loving China and having those points of view, not because of racism, but because they see the hypocrisy, double standards, imperialism, hubris and bullshit of the West. Usually these people are well informed and know both sides of the coin, that's why they arrive to the inevitable conclusion that China is right. Next time don't make assumptions and don't use fallacious logic, it makes you look like a pretentious pseudo intellectual clown.
Rarely I have ever agree with any post 100%. But yours, in the words of captain jean luke picard. "just make it so"!

Do you think if China think it needs 5000 warheads it cannot make them? it has the largest industrial base in the world. It can make 5000 warheads in 6 months if it decides to focus on it. Making nukes is 50 year old tech. It is not all that costly to make either.

China doesn't think US is willing to risk even 1 city to fight a nuclear war with China over Taiwan or even Japan. There is no mythical nuclear umbrella that can save Taiwan or Japan from Chinese nukes. If China nukes Taiwan, do you think US will risk even 1 city for Taiwan? No way.

US doesn't even have 200 cities. And I think Americans are much more smarter than risk even 1 of their cities for a distant empire in Asia.
Our friend from Portugal does sound like a child. He doesn't even realised that it only takes a few dozen nukes to lay waste to humanity. And he also doesn't know the US is not going to send their sons in to die in Ukraine, Georgia when it come up against near-peer advisories. So what chance are they going to defend Taiwan when it is near indefensible.

The bigotry, prejudice, imperialism, hypocrisy and hubris on display here, is why we have Spaniards (and Africans like myself) on this thread and supporting your POV and right to national sovereignty and restoration.

This incessant inability to view anything through any other lens than one soaking in belief in their cultural and racial superiority is nothing but hubris.

Africa has been brought nothing but pain, exploitation, division and suffering by the West. I’m not going to be naive and say that China is our salvation (we are our own salvation), but what they have done is show the world the basics of a model that can lift people out of poverty and defend against imperialist exploitation. Yes China could exploit (if African leaders allow them or are weak/corrupt/poorly educated), but in addition to our resources, China needs a market for their cheaper goods, eventually China will need a place to manufacture cheap goods for export to China and to buy China’s ever-progressing expensive and advanced goods... meanwhile the West drops bombs, backs the very worst dictatorships, funds civil wars, rape-like extraction of natural resources, economic exploitation (IMF, World Bank, France-Afrique policy etc.).

What I’m saying is, a minority of the greater human family needs to wholly reject the worst aspects of their last 600 years of history and accept a peaceful, cooperative and truely multilateral world (e.g. by respecting China, Chinese people and Chinese internal issues and sovereignty) - and let go of your hubris and hegemony, or 1B+ Africans (and their natural and Human Resources) will move firmly into China’s camp (not to mention other intelligent/enlightened people like our Spanish poster)

The US risked far more in protecting Europe and Japan against the USSR. The imbalance of forces in Europe was such that even if the Soviets launched a conventional offensive, NATO could only stop them with nuclear weapons. A similar imbalance is now developing with Taiwan.

US cannot match China’s industrial might. It can only hope to strangle it with a naval blockade, but that would not save Taiwan.

Therefore, to effectively deter China they need to raise the stakes in the direction where they hold a clear advantage. Either that, or fold out of the Western Pacific.
This is wrong analogy. If the USSR advanced into European countries, it would be naked invasion against other sovereign countries and the invaded countries would fight them with all they had. The USSR did not have the will to launch such offensive. On the other hand, when Nazi Germany invaded the USSR, the Russian people made huge sacrifices to fight against the Nazi. I'm pretty sure you're very familiar with that part of the history.

The notion that the US's "credibility" would be on the line and would be "kicked out of Western Pacific" is ludicrous and is argued to deter China's inevitable unification of Taiwan. Weighting someone's credibility, even that of the almighty U.S.A., against Chinese territory and sovereignty is way out of proportion. That once China unifies Taiwan, the US would have to get out of Western Pacific (what does that even mean?) is weird logic. We're not talking about China invading Japan here, which is totally different from China recovering Taiwan.

So you're confusing Taiwan, a legitimate territory of China, with Europe or Japan, both of which are independent sovereign countries of their own.
