I dont think we should intervene at all, at least not militarily, can try politically, talk or negotiation RTC., if that doesnt work, we should give the Etiopian goverment some military help. like equipments and training to counter those insergency.

Well according to Time Magazine China has about 4000 PAP troops in southern Sudan gaurding oil fields. A reason why no real action has been taken could be their looking for political solution or they just consider it just the cost of doing buisness. Or they're planning for a very quiet retalation with one of their small covert units equivalent to the CIA.

If you copy declining or collapsed superpowers, you will end up just like one. China should surely not head down the road of evil.

China should look to the Tang dynasty or the early Ming dynasty for guidance. It should be a center of advanced civilization and trade, not militant barbarism.

Getting caught up in African tribal conflicts is a bad idea.

Oh really? then why did the Ming and Tang dynastys fall? 'Militant barbarism' is very important for China to master. The Chinese as a nation has been far too kind and generous for thousands of years. Have you realised that china, although a very powerful nation a few hundred years ago, has NO colonies? Why? Not because china had an useless navy, but because the Chinese people and idiology is to give and not to take. Therefore, at that time, china was indeed a center of trade and was probably one of the most advanced civilizations at the time, but still collapsed, because of the lack of 'Militant Barbarism'. Whereas, europian countries, with more 'Militant Barbarism' had colonies, in china aswell, and became great new powers.
Following the route of no 'militant barbarism' is definately an ironic route for china to take.

The fact that ming and tang dynasties had fallen should not suggest that they were a failure. Look at the Roman Empire, it has dissapeared too, but dare you to call it a failure? nothing lasts forever my friend...:)

and as for china being 'a far too kind and generous nation for thousands of years', they were just too busy fighting against each other.
Remember when Zhen He sailed down to explore the world with his mighty fleet, it was not that he was too kind to colonize those territories, it was because he thought there is nothing to gain from. The chinese empire was too advanced at that time, it was their arrogance and comtemp towards other civilizations that had promped them to choose for isolation from the rest of the world....

back on topic, we all know now what China's response was. I believe if similar incidents takes place in the future, there will be no militairy deployment for china for various of reasons already discussed before.....

Nah, personally, i believe that China is a very non-aggresive nation. Although it is true that china had trouble uniting herself due to internal civil war, the Chinese have never threatened neighboring nations such as Japan, Korea, etc. The Chinese were the ones actually promoting peace and faciliating trade and developing good international relations. That was all going fine until the Japanese went haywire with the Meji Restoration and building up her Army and began messing around but now i am getting off topic regarding the chinese.....

Ladies and Gentlemen,

very interesting posts here. I am currently working on a report on China's military acitivity in Africa and have been following the latest incidents with great interest.
With regards to the deployment of anybody (SOF; light infantry etc.), does anybody have pictures of the massive (4.000 men) deployment in Sudan? I'd imagine that "hiding" 4.000 anywhere would be extremely difficult, i.e. the training of the Cuban Brigade in Guatemala prior the Bay of Pigs was compromised, too, and subsequently common knowledge.
Secondly, how does the PLA manage to maintain and supply such a large force in the middle of the continent independent of any UN assets (as it might do in PKOps)?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

regards,

Siegfried
