Potentially banning 270 million Chinese from traveling to the U.S.? I say "bring it on". Any policy that can prevent corrupt CCP cadres from escaping to the U.S. with their family and ill-gotten gains is good for me. It's also good for me if such policy exposes that the U.S. is still mired in its yellow-peril mentality and it is still persecuting Chinese with the same fever of 1950s' McCarthyism.

This is a catastrophe. China is becoming a pariah state. Soon it will have no markets, be totally isolated. China's working age population is plummeting, lost 900,000 in just the last year. By 2100 China's population will shrink to 700 million, less than half of India, and even Nigeria is projected to be more populous. Its market will be small. Its technological integration with the world cut off, which will limit its economic potential. Basically the next Japan... total decline, shrinkage on all fronts. Utter unmitigated disaster.

When that day comes all you forum members will either be dead, gone from the forum, or have nothing to say. Maybe one or two of you will finally admit I was right, but what good will it be then? Aya. It's over. I encourage all forward thinking Chinese to emigrate... Chinese once built great success in Southeast Asia, and overseas. Come to the US while you still can and build a life. Anyone can be successful here. That guy who founded Zoom is a billionaire now. The diaspora is the only hope now.

How soon, man? I told you, not putting a date on it means anybody can many any claim.

0.9 million in a population of 1.4B is 0.064%. I think your definition of plummet needs to be checked.

2100?? LOLOL Way to go making 80 year predictions. That's OK, cus by 2500, China will have found a new planet and expanded to rule the galaxy ;) Too much science fiction is brain rot. Get back to actual news with actual numbers.

Oh, encouragement from a guy who needs to make his predictions 80 years into the future to avoid being proven wrong in his lifetime... sounds like valuable advice, eh? LOL

Stop fearmongering. While I agree China needs a reset in relations with the West, but what your describing is fearmongering. The "west" has its own political problems which are difficult to solve. I would think that the US and EU would end up in political turmoil before China does. The only thing that the West truly has an advantage of China are some core technologies like semiconductors, jet engines, and also having a reserve currency like the USD or Euro. But all of these advantages can be neutralized if China is strategic.

Linear projections are misleading, birth rates can decline or increase. Besides, productivity is also an important driver of economic growth as well.

2050 is 30 years away and a lot can happen in 30 years, a buffer that is even larger when managed by a powerful government with greater control than Western governments like the CCP. And that working population, even if actually reduced by 23%, is still larger than the US and EU working population combined. In addition, the Chinese working population is becoming more efficient and more educated at a far faster rate than any rival nation. A small numeric reduction can be far more than offset by productivity rates that can climb by several folds with enhanced education, AI, mechanization, etc...

Also, a decreased population that can accomplish more (using tech and education) is helpful to increasing the quality of life. Increasing production by increasing population is just a disaster that will eventually lead to everyone being cramped on space, resources, unhappy with life, and aching to get out. When China has a smaller population (per land capita, so mostly likely this can be achieved in conjunction to expanding Chinese cities into currently untapped land) with world-leading work-efficiency, that's when China can become not only the most powerful nation on earth, but finally neutralize the traditional Western advantage of luring talent with higher quality of life.

If the Chinese government really wanted to increase birthrates, being an authoritarian state, they could ban contraceptives and abortion. Blasting propaganda 24/7 to increase fertility would also work. Being that there is still a 2 child policy, I'm thinking they don't see a decreased population as much of a problem seeing as automation will likely replace many of the manual labor jobs currently.

The posters here don't see anything as a problem. China is literally committing suicide of it's hopes for greatness and they don't see it as a problem. That's fine but for forward thinking and smart Chinese, who can see China going down this dark path of the dead end, reversing opening & reform, and going down the path of the autarkic ethnostate, they should get out as soon as possible. What's happening today is similar to the 1st time the iron curtain descended over China, in 1949. Time to say goodbye to China for the time being.
