China Navy Power

I just saw on Lou Dobbs more exaggerations and lies about China's naval buildup. There was quote about China doesn't need a navy to conquer the US when they can just buy it. I think his show is the only one in the US where I've ever seen a picture of the 052C outside the internet. He claimed it was a stolen copy of US Aegis warship. The 052C doesn't look anything like US Aegis warships. And the critics wonder why?

Lou Dobbs?? Oh brother. No wonder you are forming the opinions you are. Too bad so many Americans listen to his neo-con ramble on about the "Chinese threat".

Most Americans would not recognize any warship. Except an aircraft carrier. A foriegn vessel? No way.

The PRC is well on it's way to developing a fine navy. They need not to rush into it however. the PLAN sailors need to be trained of course. Time my friends time. That is what it will take.

Lou Dobbs was first I've heard make that claim about the 052C. Since then you go on these boards and forums and they all say it now. I think Richard Fisher has said it too. People want to believe it.

Dobbs obviously has no understanding of naval architecture! When you take 2 different design teams and ask them to come up with a warship to carry out a broadly similar role you shouldn't be surprised if they come up with 2 very similar designs! Just the same way that a shark and a dolphin can look superficially like each other, yet they're not related! :D

The milestones that we can judge China's naval power development by are when it puts a fully operational CBG out to sea, when it gets its first foreign basing arrangement, and when it fields its first indigenous CV.

That's because some people see some sort of phased array radar system and some sort of VLS arranged on a DDG ship hull. And they seem to be configured like an Arleigh Burke. So therefore people think, it must be an Arleigh Burke without understanding that what the USA has in the AEGIS battle management system is alot more than just a phased array radar and VLS missiles. Much more. The 052C is definitely configured to look like a US AEGIS ship. But it's doubtful if it will work like one. They may have copied the configuration of sensor positioning and missiles, but it's no USN AEGIS.

Interesting how "stolen" is so frequently used yet it's no "USN Aegis." It can't really be stolen then. It's quite clear if the PAR came from a foreign source, it would be the Ukraine and not the "stolen" from the US. If it turns out to APAR as rumored, then we know where it ain't from but I'm sure there will be those still claim it was stolen from the US.

It is clear that China has tried to gain information from espionage efforts, but it's pretty clear that what they got is rather limited. It does however look like they have "copied" some of the structural configuration. At least to some degree.

structural similarities between 052C and Arleigh Burke are very minimal, probably only the layout and positions of four PADs. It is just like US F-15 and Soviet
MIG-25, many says US copied the soviet structural design, but we all know
other than the superficial "look" resemblance, they are two very different planes.
