J10BG in yellow primer paint, and a J16. New built J10BG in primer paint, or an existing J10B upgraded to J10BG, and repainted with new coat of primer paint?

I wonder why they are producing new J-11BG platforms instead of J-11D.
If j-11bg managed to upgrade some major equipments, like new radar, new cockpit, new avionics and possibles new engine, what’s the different between it to the j-11d beside of the fancy radome? At least they can save the effort on changing airframes for j-11bg

What is the source of the claim that some j11bg are definitively new builds?

We don't have one.

For example, in that picture we do not know if it is definitively a new build J-11BG with a new build J-16.
For all we know they could be aircraft that have just undergone deep maintenance, with the J-11B having undergone an upgrade to BG standard along with maintenance.

Old radome may actually mean that there is a swashplate or even su-35-like swivel mechanism inside, not just a fixed array.
Flanker will easily support this weight&volume forward...and it'll bring some very obvious tactical benefits.
