J-11B with WS-10A engine has been untouchable
for 3 consecutive years in a row.

J-11B
has been the Best Dog Fighter aircraft in PLAAF arsenal,

beating the previous champ super nimble J-10A , ... ...
and maybe even beating super nimble J-10B ... ??

Before year 2011, ... ...
ChengDu * J-10A are the Best Dog Fighter in PLAAF arsenal.
ShenYang * J-11A pilots can NOT compete with J-10A pilots.

Pilot Yang's Anshan * 1st Fighter division has already won
Cream of the Crop -- Golden Helmet Ace Pilot, 3 times

J 11B--歼11B--3x Golden Helmet Champ--金头盔--2.jpeg

My understanding ... ...
Pilot Yang said J-11BS has much wider Speed band
performance from Low to High than J-10A

because of those ventral fins modification.

Haven't watched the video, but did he actually state that he went up against J-10As in the video?

From what I've read, the Golden Helmet Exercise mostly pit fighters of the same type against each other, although they participate in "free-style" combat with no altitude and range restrictions.

Also keep in mind that the earliest batch of J-11Bs use AL-31s instead of WS-10s. According to Yankee from CJDBY, it is the former that performed well in the Golden Helmet Exercise in 2012.

This fact was so much misquoted, since in the video is a J-11BS shown, which has indeed the WS-10A, but all other J-11Bs from that unit - the 1. FD / 1. AR - are AL-31F-powered batch 01 aircraft.

That's just an old video from few months ago we discussed here before, the pilot said J-11B is much improved/advanced than pervious version( Assume J-11A). He never mention J-10A/B/C in his conversation with the reporter.

I recall the only interesting information from the video was that the pilot stated there is some breakthrough with J-11B's capability now it can attack land targets with new munitions/missiles. And as a pilot he was happy to see J-11B equipped with domestic engines and hoping to see even more advanced domestic egines in the future. And the reporter claiming J-11B can attack air, sea, and land targets day and night.

Correct me if I am wrong, ... ...
My personal understanding after watching that video ... ...

1): Starting from 2012, in the annual National Golden Helmet competition,
PLAAF introduce a Golden Helmet < Free--style > combat
with no altitude and range restrictions
.

2): Any plane class and qualified pilots can participate on this
< Free--style > combat competition.
Meaning the plane is not limited to the same class.

3): Watch Minute = 00:43
J-11BS ( specifically s/n 10322 ) and other J-11B plane ( I am not certain S or not ) won the < Free--style > combat competition 3 years running.

J-11B ( dual or single seat ) has won in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
I assume in 2013 and 2014 Free--style mixed class competition,
J-10B may also participated, and lost to J-11B.

The Pilot Yang did explained that J-11B has superior and
wider flying speed range.
It was impossible for J-10 to achieve this speed range.
Watch Minute = 01:36

4): Before 2012, in previous mixed class Dog Fighting competition
( regional, not National competition ) the J-10A always won handily vs. J-11A.

J-10A winning ratio was quite lopsided.
J-10A * mixed class Dog Fighting * Winning ratio sometime
as high as 13 Win / 1 Lost.

This J-10A Dog Fighting superiority below was widely known,
and leading many PLA fanboys to look down on J-11A performance.

After 2011, J-10 ( maybe both A & B ) can not touch ShenYang J-11B
in regional and National Free--Style Dog Fighting mixed class competitions.

That is why there are so many High Definition pictures of
J-11BS ( s/n 10322 ) on Chinese internet.

*** Please correct me if my observation above is inaccurate.

But the pilot was only telling the reporter why the J-11 aerodynamics and maneuverability is so good and easy to fly. He didn't compare it to any other aircraft. The whole video never mention any other type of aircraft at all. And We don't know what other types of fighter jets the J-11B were going up against in the Golden Helmet competition. So.. We can't really assume it was J-10A/B/C.
