Quite interesting it looks like an UPAZ-1A pod ... as such could it be that China has some deeper and much more secret connections maybe even with the whole Flanker (J-15/J-16-program) than we ever read in public ?

Here are some images of the UPAZ-1A for comparison.

556 didnt have a refueling probe prior to this did it? So they refitted it for buddy refueling that was quick

So rumours already proven false J15B is not going to have buddy refueling J15 already has it!

All J-15s have had an IFR probe, it's only 556 that we've seen carrying this refuelling pod.

There were previous pictures of one of the prototypes on liaoning taxiing around with something like that under its centerline station.
We can be sure all J-15s will have this capability to bear a refuelling pod.

I read some time ago ( where? ) that J-16 is in production. That would mean that the first J-15 batch ( 24 aircraft ? ) is ( nearly ) completed and that now a J-16 batch is being produced, to be followed by either a J-15 batch or another one of J-16's.

Personally I think both units are under construction right now probably even completion

J15 is well on its way and J16 is also running while J10B is also joining the party

Regiments should stand up this year 2014

Here's J16

So the not-always-reliable news outlet Want CT has an article today that claims the J-16 rivals the Su-35, and would gradually replace the J-15. If true, why did China make a bid for the Su-35 and will there be a carrier version of the J-16?

China's most advanced fighter jet J-16 has been revealed online in flight mode, the latest in a series of news items on developments in the Chinese military since last November.

An image of the J-16, a 3.5-generation multi-role twin-seat fighter jet, was posted on the China-based Dingsheng military website Friday along with other types of Chinese fighter jets, such as the J-11 and J-15.

The J-16 jet shown online was believed to be a prototype of the jet fighter because it carries the serial number "1601."

It marked the first time that the warplane was shown in flying mode.

Military analysts speculated that the plane should still be in the test-flight stage.

Some Chinese netizens said the plane is undergoing tests at a People's Liberation Army (PLA) flight test and training base in Hebei Province in northern China.

The plane was developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corp. for the use of the PLA Navy's aviation corps.

A Shengyang Aircraft Corp. executive was quoted by Chinese media as saying recently that the J-16 could rival Russia's Su-35 fighter jet.

Military analysts said the J-16 was an improved version of Russia's Su-30MKK. It can carry a maximum load of 12 tons of bombs or missiles, including YJ-62 and YJ-83 anti-ship missiles.

Previous media reports said the J-16's navigation electronics were much better than those on the J-15, and expected the new jet to gradually replace the J-15 in maritime battles.

The posting of the J-16 image followed a number of high-profile reports on PLA-related activities since the end of the third plenum of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in November 2013, at which a new generation of leaders assumed power.

One of the stories drawing the greatest attention was China's new aircraft carrier — the Liaoning — making its first long-distance voyage to the South China Sea on a testing and training mission.

Other milestones to be highly publicized were the test-firing of the land-based Dongfeng 41 multi-warhead intercontinental ballistic missile and the test-firing of the submarine-launched JL-2 missile.

To admit this report is so full of errors, misunderstanding and no-brainers that reading is not even worth the time.
Like said by someone else in another tread to a similar topic, I really don't understand how a reporter can even manage to include so much bullshit in so few bords and get even paid by the publisher ! I think I do something wrong.

Anyway:

J-16 = Su-30MKK equivalent ... most likely not for PLANAF (which has the JH-7B) but for the PLAAF ... it is not carrier-capable !! (completely different game, no hands allowed, we are playing Football (= Socker))

J-15 = Su-33 equivalent ... surely not for PLAAF (which has the J-11B) but for the PLANAF ... it is carrier-capable !! (also completely different game, no feet allowed, we are playing Handball)

Oh god.

You answered your own questions by saying it is WCT. :p

This article is so laughably bad.

"First time see in flying mode..."
"Maximum load of 12 toms..."
