Put some jet engines on that and let's see what happens when it goes Mach 1.

I suggest you watch 633 squadron mate, delft, calling master delft, others will likely know, wasn't the Dehavilland Vampire also wooden, I'm sure it never reached Mach 1 but it was light and fairly fast. The beautifull Bellanca Viking was also a steel tube fuselage, with woodern spars and plywood wings, fabrick covered, and very fast......Brat

These latest developements will elevate the Flankers stature yet once again, and I really do have an ulterior motive, if those Su-35s come through with the 117s, it will be "interesting" to see how they do against the sweet little J-10, however my really subversive thinking, is I would love to see those 117s on the J-20...... Just some family prejudice, my Daddy said, as we drove around the Super Guppy, you can fly anything with enough horsepower,,,so, we shall see???? Brat

Oh, and definetly watch that video, I think this chick bit the dust tho didn't she????,,,,, that big wing and two Merlins, Wow
The Supermarine Spitfire is still my favorite English WW-II fighter, followed by the Sea Fury, with that big radial, contra rotating props and folding wings, would have been a smasher! I also think a Mossy is flying in New Zealand??????? Brat

Definitely OT.
I read that early Vampires had partly wooden nacelles but I never saw one, early or late.
The great protagonist of wooden wings and steel tube fuselages was Fokker. His D-7 fighter was even mentioned in the Versailles treaty. All similar aircraft build since will have been influenced by his many examples.
North American Aviation was asked by the British to produce Spitfires but they preferred to develop the Mustang that with the same Merlin engine was definitely a better aircraft.
Sea Furies with inline engines had contra rotating props but not production aircraft with their Centaur radials. I remember seeing, even touching, them. The last time Sea Furies saw combat was over the Bay of Pigs just more than fifty years ago.

Kroko is right. We're waiting for info about J-15 production. I don't expect any other news.

Sad, that the non-existance of news for the Chinese Flankers turned so tragically !

For f***'s sakes, the PLAAF really needs to drill into the minds of their pilots that their own lives are infinitely more valuable than their plane. This type of incident has occurred numerous times in the past resulting in losses of pilots whose lives were valuable in both a moral AND a financial sense. It takes incredulous amounts of money to train a good pilot and good pilots are not always replaceable, unlike a metal flying object.

Damn. I just saw this too. :(

Since this accident only just happened, the report of both pilots KIA is unlikely to be from anything remotely official, and from the photo, the canopy and ejection seats are all absent, which strongly indicates that the pilots ejected to me. If the pilots ejected, then there is a good chance they survived. Here's to hoping the reports of the pilots' demise are greatly exaggerated.

Also, looking at the picture, does anyone else think the colour of the plane looks a little yellowish?

Good observation ! So either a refurbished Su-27UBK or a new J-11BS ... hopefully not a J-16 !

all other Chinese reports are saying both pilots are dead. RIP.

The plane looks incredibly intact for a crash so one can only assume the pilot took her down and basically landed and slid on her belly which is the best chance of survival. Looks like both seats and the entire canopy is gone which indicates pilot ejection. I wonder how they died then if they ejected unless something else happened afterward.
