China Coast Guard and Patrol vessels

And why would that be overkill? China had very long coastline as well as large area of disputed islands area. From what I see, they do not have enough. Even Japan had massive number of cutters and one or more 6000tons heavily armed cutters.

How many cutters are there over 1,000 tons from all neighboring CGs? That can put things into perspective.

Why does that matter? China CG is reorganizing and modernizing their fleet, so it's no surprise they want new ships to supplement or replace old ones under different organizations that may not suit the new CG.

How many cutters do the Japanese have and many of these cutters are heavily armed. And how many aircraft in Japanese coast guards units did the Japanese have? And how many of China's cutters are heavily armed or armed at all for the matter?

Maybe, looking at that would put things into perspective.

I wonder why China does not arm its cutters while its neighbors including Taiwan arm their cutters heavily. Should there be any conflict between, China would be in disadvantage situation although one might claims that the possibility of a conflict is very low.

Well I would assume that in the event some skirmishes arises with a neighboring country there would be no way in hell the Chinese could be faulted for firing the first shot without any on board guns. Then the PLAN would have the right reason to come to the rescue of an armless civilian vessel who could weigh several thousands tonnes.

On the other hand, Japanese CG could say unarmed CCG ship was trying to ram them, so they had to open fire in self defense.

To illustrate to those that question the number. Smaller nations field a hefty number of large CG vessels. No reason why China can't field a CG that fits her growing economical clout.

That was the point I was getting at.

Then hopefully along with the new digital boards seen on those vessels, surveillance cameras are there too.

Thank you. You make my point. China needed more cutters and armed and also needed more aircraft to ensure the safety of her people. So it justify building better, newer and more of these vessels. It just doesn't make sense when anything happen and she had to start sending her navy frigates, destroyers to the troubled area and giving the other an excuse for the China threats theory.

Nevermind a machine gun does these cutters have a water canon ? And are they decommissioning the older cutters as the newer ones come into service ?
