Who says it doesn't have 2DTVC? It would seem essential to the ability of tail-less th 6th gens to actually fly. Perhaps it's just moved from YF-23 style to J-XDS style?
Why would they do that, fully burried exhaust is the best at radar and IR signature management. I see no reason to move to a worse alternative.

In the channels they only had partial TVC (top only), now it can have full 2D TVC. Also YF-23 had issues with heating in the channels.
Doesn't seem like a sound argument IMO, J-36 is pretty clearly not meant for extreme manuverbility. The channels could likely provide enough thrust vectoring trimming while supercruising and in a tailless fighter you would likely want yaw TVC instead of pitch. With how great the Chinese material science is right now surely heating issues with the exhaust could be solved, the Americans are almost definitely going to end up with burried channel for their 6th gen.
