Jeff,

Since we are on the topic of the F-5. There have been talks and rumors of talks regarding the possible sale of the US Navy F-5N fleet (32 aircraft) to the FAA as a possible place hold until a final decision is made regarding a replacement multi roll aircraft.

However, I say “what is wrong with the F-5N/E?” it is not a bad aircraft. If armed with Derby missiles it is more than enough to protect the nation. Saudi Arabia has 120 in mothballs and the Jordanians have around 30. Not to mention the South Koreans and Taiwanese.

The F-5 is also not a threat to the British even if four squadrons (of 15) were to be made operational.

What is your professional opinion?
USN surely not possible a part are former Swiss, N less old used by 3 Agressors Sqns in more 1 USMC, cheaper for training and interesting for it.
USN : 44 F-5 E/F/N
USMC : 12 " "

My friend, this is a direct result of the defeat of the Peronist Party and President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

The people of Argentina are to thank...sadly, it was such a close election, even with the diasasters she had inflicted.

Hopefully, with success, more and more Argentine people will turn back to tried and true principles for a strong country, strong families, strong financials, etc.

I hope and pray it is so.

Hehehe...I know it is not likely, but wouldn't;t it be wonderful for Argentina to get strong enough to revive the F-20 program and get a few squadrons of those aircraft?

Isn't Northgrop new entry T-X trainer proposition technically an upgraded F-20 program. I also really want to see F-20 like program being revived. Even if F-20 got revived, I think Britain would protest USA at supplying arms to Argentina

There is a Resemblance between the F20 and the T400 but how deep? A superficial resemblance and use of a engine from the same engine series will only take you so far.
And As to selling to Argentina So long as the weapons system are not likely to offer a possible edge vs the Falklands for UK forces The Uk will likely let it slide.
Typhoon Severely outclasses F20 And the US is selling the Royal Air Force and Navy variants of the F35 Which again would smoke F20.
Also the US is already making some sales to Argentina.
US cleared to complete T-6C sale to Argentina
31 AUGUST, 2016 BY: STEPHEN TRIMBLE WASHINGTON DC

A 30-day Congressional notification period has closed on a proposed sale of 24 Beechcraft T-6C Texan trainers to the Argentine air force, clearing the way for the US government and industry officials to complete negotiations on the estimated $300 million deal.

Coming only two months after the final delivery to the US Navy under the 20-year-old Joint Primary Aircraft Training Systems (JPATS) programme, the proposed T-6 sale to Buenos Aires offers a timely lifeline to the T-6C production line in Wichita, Kansas.

“We look forward to continuing our conversations with Argentina to offer the Beechcraft T-6C military trainer,” Beechcraft says.

By late June, Beechcraft had delivered more than 400 T-6 Texan IIs to the US Air Force and nearly 300 to the Navy, replacing an aging fleet of Cessna T-37s and Beechcraft T-34s. The company also has received a recent order from the UK Ministry of Defence to supply T-6 trainers for replacing Embraer Tucanos.

Argentina appears to have selected the T-6C over the EMB-314 Super Tucano, which is manufactured in neighbouring Brazil. Embraer declined to comment on the announced proposed sale of T-6s to Argentina.

T-6C can be operated as an advanced trainer and a light attack aircraft.

Argetina’s air force operates a training fleet comprised of Embraer Tucanos and jet-powered FAdeA IA-63 Pampas. It also uses the IA-63 and theFAdeA IA-58 Pucara in light attack roles.

In related news, the state-owned FAdeA completed first flight in mid-August of the IA-100, a primary trainer powered by a piston engine.

For sure the F-35 would have smoked it, and there is no doubt about it, but for typhoon, I believe it would still cause a nuisance to it. If the US is not selling the weapon system, definitely, the plane would be a no go for Argentina. (A man can still dream about it :) )

A Short Nuisance, The Radar of a typhoon as well as performance aspects combined with long range missiles in The form of AMRAAM and eventually Meteor missiles vs Aim 7 sparrows of a F20. Nope If it went with the Aim 120 okay perhaps a sweat drop but still the Radar will put it in the Typhoon's Skies waiting to be knocked down.
