Since Palantir has become more topical recently, it's reminded me that the federal government spent millions of dollars on a secret Palantir contract that was signed in 2020.

Oil pipelines makes a ton of money. It's why the largest Canadian oil company is Enbridge, a pipeline company that produce nothing. They don't need to produce oil, just pay for pump station operation and maintenance and get paid a ton.
Gas prices is mostly taxes, like 60% of what you pay at the pump is pure tax. Road tax, which EVs don't pay seems like it may change. Carbon tax adds another 10 cents or so. Provincial taxes, gst/PST depends on where you are at.
And if you are not near a refinery or Alberta where the oil comes from transportation costs. Especially Quebec or lower mainland since they don't think they use any oil at all.
Giving billions to private industry to build critical infrastructure as a banker is 1000% better than what Trudeau was doing with his ban building anything outside of Quebec and virtual signaling.
It was also under Trudeau that hospital wait times went from 1.5 hours to 5+hours. How's was that gym/snowboard teacher any better?
Yea the pipeline will eventually generate tax revenues for the Canadian Government.

Most opposition groups probably are supported by the US. 10 years when all the dumb Hollywood actors decided Canadian oil is dirty and California oil is good flew here in their private jets... Wonder who supported that.
Alberta separatists are the dumbest bunch, sure we don't love the liberals, especially Trudeau but they are loudest now, it's not a hard guess where they get their money.
And they say China does interference lol.
Like I said before Canada doesn't have an oil industry, Alberta does. The federal government want tax revenues from oil, then support Alberta. Want Alberta to not separate, support Alberta even without the massive vote bank like Ontario.
Ontario got a car industry, it's not Canada's. What does Quebec have? Dairy? Yet they got to of people and the threat of separation so squeeky wheel gets the oil.
There are now three big private pipeline companies in Canada, Enbridge, TC energy, keyera. They are all extremely profitable (I own shares in all), transmountain is a government owned company and is considered non profitable, but that is because all its revenue is basically consider taxes. If it was a private company it would be consider a massive success with debt being paid.

American interference has been trying to tear Canada apart since before there was a Canada, think of Benedict Arnold’s failed invasion (before he became a traitor). It’s just in the post war order, people really bought into the whole “leader of the free world” business and forgot history. Carney seems to not hold this illusion, while the relationship with the US is likely the most important, you do not have to follow like a moron (like Trudeau did).
I'm stunned that the Canadian national interest has been on the backburner for decades. Things like NAFTA (export dependence) and getting overly involved in American oversea entanglements (GoT, Huawei) seem to come reflexively to the Laurentian Elite - the complete opposite of their forefathers.
