I heard the success of the China-Laos Railway has been a huge motivating factor for Thailand and Myanmar to get their respective projects completed. I think I remember seeing an estimate that the Laos railway could increase said country's GDP growth by 1.6% in 2023 (previously projected to grow 3%, an over 50% increase).

It's a perfect illustration of the BRI strategy- you can either hop on the development train or see all of your regional rivals leapfrog you by light years. Hopefully it'll convince the Philippines as well.

Yes, both the China-Lao railway and the Chinese-built Jakarta-to-Bandung HSR are excellent showcase projects for region, but I doubt the Philippines will get involved, they're too brainwashed, too anti-China, too short-term and therefore will remain in the 3rd world.

To be honest the Japanese overpromise and can't provide the necessary fund needed to foresee all project and also they're very selective in their investment they want quick return, so yes back to the drawing board and begging bowl and the Chinese had wise up and are being selective as well. From my perspective among ASEAN countries, Indonesia is China number 1 priority follow by Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, the rest are afterthought, good enough to have a friendly relationship.

@ansy1968 , why do you think that Indonesia is no 1 priority? I thought were Cambodia and Thailand

They were BUT after Joko Widodo assume office, he pivoted to China and China respond positively, you see Indonesia occupy a very strategic location, some geopolitical pundits say its the Philippine BUT with the advent of Chinese Hypersonic and tactical missile those advantages had become a liability. In this hybrid war the only way to defeat the Collective West is bring the fight to them, a strong Indonesia will check Australia, a stable NK will nullify SK, the Russian and China alliances will box in Japan. I hope you see what I'm getting at the global south need to be strengthen cause this fight will be a mano en mano between the US and China and the rest are side show.

Indonesia is ASEAN's powerhouse. Control of Indonesia automatically translates to control of ASEAN
Correct and check the sea routes, with Indonesia being neutral who will implement the Malacca strait blockade unless the US want to violate its sovereignty. So arming and making Indonesia rich is China priority with side bonus of 200 million consumer. ;)

They're a top candidate to be the next big rising world power, as I recall. Very promising developments.
