Those low angle shots make the ships look ugly and top-heavy, though the higher angle shot is better.

Add the non-integrated mast and that these are basically the last ships to receive the SPY-1 radar, and they are looking rather tired and old-school before the project is even complete.
Make no mistake...the Hobarts are very capable vessels and are strong mulit-role capable on AAW, ASW, and ASuW.

I'm sure they are capable. Really, the problem is that they are late. We should've had these ships (all of them) in service by 2010.

I mean that the ships wouldn't have seemed on the verge of behind the times if they had been commissioned in 2010 -- and so far as I know there's no technical reason they couldn't have been -- or even earlier really. And that in itself is telling.

I know it must work in terms of balance, but that thing looks so top heavy a faint breeze might topple it over.
