Does anyone know what is the Type 098 SSBN that Sub Brief aka Aaron Amick was referring to in his latest video on the 094?
Old name for 096?

Aaron Amick was a Sonar man in the USN during the late Cold War to early 2000s and knows his field well.

The problems start when he starts to produce videos on subjects he knows little about. (ie. Military procurement of the PLAN).

From what I have seen of his PLAN videos in general, it would not be a exaggeration to say he knows less than the average user here.

This just popped into my head, so here I come to ask.

Why does many submarine sonar use cylindrical arrays? I find it weird that some of the arrays are actually facing the submarine hull itself. Wouldn't it be more efficient to just make a half-cylinder array so all the sonar waves are sent outwards to detect targets/obstacles?
