Is the JFK still in service? or in reserve fleet, if I remember she had a funnel kicked out to one side, like WW2 IJN carriers. last American oil-steam powered CV.

JFK has been officially struck from service. There are organisations trying to turn her into a museum or some other type or memorial.
As far as her being returned to the fleet or put on standby status at this point there are no plans. The USN unfortunately is done with her for good and now up to private donors to prevent her from being scrap.

Thanks for that info, shame it sound a bit like our situation with HMS Illustrious we are supposed to be saving her as a museum, I went passed her just last week, along side at Portsmouth as I was passing on my way to a meeting. they have de stored her but have not started pre stripping her prior to disposal. at this time she looks good. in a mothball condition, maybe she could be re activated if needed.Knowing the MOD she be going to the breakers yard soon.:(

How do the sizes of these building docks compare to the sizes of other building docks building or having built aircraft carriers in France, Scotland :), India, China, the old Soviet dock in Nikolaev, possible other dock in Russia?

Sometimes you don't need a dry dock. I wonder just how big you can go doing this. Bath Iron Works does the same thing. In both cases they still need a floating dry dock to lower the ship into the water but I would suspect you don't need one to match the full length of the ship. I would think a submersible barge would work (I think that is how Austal in Alabama launches their ships).
