A Chinese AF Fighter Jet Crashed Near Chengdu

Can anyone tell difference between J10A AL-31 and J10B AL-31?

It's very close to Chengdu and it's in yellows primer so it must be a batch 01 of the J10B if so it's bad news

Good news is pilot is safe

Also there's no crator or deep hole it's crashed on a set of stairs? It's not damaged much of the surroundings but aircraft looks like it's caught fire and is destroyed by fire not a crash as such could be a low speed crash

It looks very much similar to the JF-17 crashed that happened only the PAF pilot died in that crash and aircraft was canopy downwards

I wonder if it's going to delay the J10B programme

I don't know about it being a twin seater, though. Despite what someone might report, the dorsal line on the wreckage does not seem to be the larger, more squarish type as seen on j10s but rather the smaller, more rounded type seen on j10a and j10b. Coupled with yellowish looking fuselage bits it really might be a j10b.

I agree, since this is a yellow coloured aircraft featuring not the larger spine of the trainer is must me a single seater ! If it was a B-model I cannot conclude but it is highly likely !

Anyway good, that the pilot is save and no-one was killed.

I suppose they have to ground the fleet and stop production for now. There will be an investigation. If its a pilot error then the project will be back on the rails pretty quickly however if they find technical faults with the plane then they have to find it and correct it. Meaning that the older planes have to go back to the plant to be retro fitted. And that is going to take some time.

The pilot was one of the first few test pilots who flied the J2001.

With such an experienced pilot it should not be the pilot's fault.

According to sources the J10B is equipped with new engines from Russia. They have higher thrust. It might be due to this.

Test pilot Li Gang, who flew J-20 2001 on its maiden flighter, didn't eject until the aircraft dropped to an altitude of 300 meters. According to CJDBY, the crash was caused by engine failure.

Just another reminder that China needs to up its game in the engine development department, applicable whether the engine was Russian or Chinese. Thankfully no one was killed, looks like the plane barely missed crashing directly into whatever building that is.
